You might remember the story from almost exactly a year ago about the surprise discovery and subsequent excavation of a lost part of the famous Hunnestad runestone monument.

Well, Axel Krogh Hansen is an early medieval archaeologist with the National History Museums in Sweden, and it is he who excavated it. He's agreed to come on Crowdcast to answer your questions about the find and about medieval archaeology in Scandinavia, and to update us on what is known about these particular runestones and what the artwork on them depicts (a good deal of work has been done on this in the last year, but so far it has only been published in Swedish).

In the usual way of Crowdcasts with speakers in Europe, this one will be in the morning for participants in the Americas, in the evening for participants in Europe/Africa/the Middle East, and unfortunately pretty late if you're in East Asia or Oceania. If you can make it, the time is 10:00 a.m. U.S. Mountain time on Sunday, January 9th (the registration page will display the time in your local time zone). If you can't make it, comment below with any relevant questions you'd like me to ask, and I will do my best to make sure they are covered.

This might be the last post of this calendar year, so let me say that I continue to be overwhelmed by your kindness and support, and I continue to work toward being deserving of them. December 2021 saw a surge in the number of and contributions by Patreon supporters, and I'm grateful and more than a little surprised. But mostly grateful--to those joining us for the first time this month, and to the surprisingly many of you who have been part of this community since it began in 2016, and to everyone between.

For now, I'll hope to see you at this first Crowdcast of 2022, and I'll wish all of you the very best as this year ends and the next begins.

P.S. Especially for new supporters: Patreon's private messaging system doesn't work! I don't get notifications for your messages and I can't always even see them if I  check for them manually. To get in touch, we request that you either email my assistant Stella at admin AT JacksonWCrawford.com or post in the Community page

I’m going to attempt this one even though I don’t know if it’ll work with my shitty internet. My phone usually does better then the TV though as far as streaming so I think I got half a chance of being able to participate.

Funny - everytime I see "Crowdcast" on this site my mind reads it as "Crow-cast" thinking of Hugin and Munin, Odin's ravens.
