This week's Patreon vocabulary video is based on the latest Old Norse lesson you're getting early, on the r-stems (the five core family words faðir, móðir, bróðir, systir, dóttir) and other vocabulary for family.

The only new public video since our last vocabulary post was a quiet scenic video that I hope you enjoyed of a glass-clear lake high in the Rocky Mountains. Specifically, that's in the Snowy Range just over the Wyoming border, recorded during July, in an area that's been dead in the sights of the still-active Mullen Fire in these subsequent months. However, that specific site has not been burned as I write this.

Meanwhile, don't forget about our crowdcast with Dr. Luke Gorton on Friday, and I'll have more Crowdcasts to announce to you soon, too!

All the best for now,

Dr. Jackson Crawford

Watched even though I’m so far behind it’s ridiculous. I’m probably going to have to start all over, especially since my boxer got ahold of half my flash cards. Was there a gender neutral term for a baby? Like we say “infant” or “newborn”. Or was it just “my (or “their”) son/daughter” ?

I think "barn" might work for that: https://old-norse.net/html/b.php#barn

Thank you so much for this video! I love that you translate in younger futhark. Not always the easiest to find sadly.

I'm glad you're finding some use in these older videos! I've done a lot on Younger Futhark, and probably the deepest dive was this one: https://youtu.be/X7Z65582ex4
