Some updates and considerations (Patreon)
Content
• It doesn't happen often, but every now and then I've had to ban someone from Patreon--one time for stalking, twice now for trying to spread fascist propaganda (and when I say "fascist," I mean the real thing, self-identifying Nazis). I say this not as a warning but as a reassurance; I'm not going to let this community degenerate into a place where people spew vile hate. The internet is full of enough places like that.
• Some of you have asked what will happen if I phase out translations by request for patreon supporters, as I mentioned I was considering in a recent video. My current idea is this: leave (short) translations by request open at the $10/month level, but also host a (monthly?) hangout or chat session exclusively for patreon supporters where anyone at any level can ask for (very short, a sentence or less) translations. That way I can exercise a little more control over how much time I spend on these requests, which is becoming too much for me to get everything else done (like the new books, videos, and of course my day job). What do you think? What is the best way to host a chat or hangout like that? I am *not* very familiar with social tools on the internet so your feedback is appreciated.
• I also recently gave an interview to Noah Tetzner of the History of Vikings podcast. We talked about the difference between Old English and Old Norse, the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, the gods and the giants, and more.
