The Prince Of Egypt Movie Description:

In this animated retelling of the Book of Exodus, Egyptian Prince Moses (Brenda Chapman), upon discovering his roots as a Jewish slave, embarks on a quest to free his people from bondage. When his plea is denied by his brother Rameses (Steve Hickner), the new pharaoh, a series of horrific plagues strike Egypt. Moses finally leads the Israelites to freedom by parting the Red Sea and drowning the Egyptian army. God then gives Moses the Ten Commandments, a list of rules for his people to live by.

The Prince of Egypt is a 1998 American animated musical drama film produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by DreamWorks Pictures. The first feature film from DreamWorks to be traditionally animated and their second overall, it is an adaptation of the first fourteen chapters of the Book of Exodus and follows the life of Moses from being a prince of Egypt to a prophet of the Lord, chosen by God to carry out his ultimate destiny of leading the Hebrews out of Egypt. The film was directed by Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner, and Simon Wells (in Chapman and Hickner's feature directorial debuts) with a screenplay written by Philip LaZebnik. It features songs written by Stephen Schwartz and a score composed by Hans Zimmer. The voice cast consists of Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.

Jeffrey Katzenberg had frequently suggested an animated adaptation of the 1956 film The Ten Commandments while working for The Walt Disney Company, and he decided to put the idea into production after leaving Disney and co-founding DreamWorks Pictures in 1994. To make the project, DreamWorks employed artists who had worked for Walt Disney Feature Animation and Amblimation, totaling a crew of 350 people from 34 countries. The film has a blend of traditional animation and computer-generated imagery, created using software from Toon Boom Animation and Silicon Graphics.

The film was released in theaters on December 18, 1998, and on home video on September 14, 1999. Reviews were generally positive; critics particularly praised the visuals, songs, score, and voice acting. The film grossed $218 million worldwide in theaters, which made it the most successful non-Disney animated feature at the time. The film's success led to the direct-to-video prequel and spin-off Joseph: King of Dreams (2000), and a stage musical adaptation which opened in London's West End in 2020.

The song "When You Believe" became a commercially successful single in a pop version performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, and went on to win Best Original Song at the 71st Academy Awards, making it the first animated film independently outside of Disney and Pixar films, as well as the first DreamWorks Animation film to receive two nominations and win one at the Academy Awards, succeeded by Shrek (2001) and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). The film also won the inaugural Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Animated Feature, in a tie with Disney and Pixar's A Bug's Life.

In retrospective years since its release, the film has been widely acclaimed and regarded as DreamWorks' magnum opus, and one of the greatest animated films of all time.

Showing a whole movie is copyright infringement. Which is against the law, not getting locked up for anybody.

I've always liked the song that Jethro sings because it reminds me of the songs we would sing as kids in Hebrew school (where most American Jewish kids go for a few hours a week to learn about being Jews and get ready to have bar mitzvahs at 13) which frequently featured those "li li li" interludes.

Ofra Haza is the vocalist you're living for, she was called the Israeli Madonna. She sadly died in 2000

ngl in terms of the movie version, moses abandoned his brother and then aided in the murder of his nephew. very odd to encourage. i know rameses, as a product of his environment ( LIKE MOSES BEFORE HE KNEW ) remained ignorant of his privilege. moses was the exact same person before some divine intervention apparently? idk. weird ass message. but the movie is good if you ignore it as a real moral message cos disgusting.

Ame

I wouldn’t say he encouraged it. I mean even as a moral message think about Moses’ thought process, he just learned and was given a vision/memory that he was born Hebrew and SO many children were killed by the order of his adopted father; someone he loves deeply. His eyes were opened in a way but he just couldn’t take it anymore and left. I mean learning that I would want to run as far as I could too. We’re only human. And I do believe Moses WAS trying to warn Rameses; in their argument when he came back he literally says “something else is coming… think of your son!” I fully believe that like they said in the song Moses felt terrible about what was happening to Egypt. I mean the guy was raised there and it was his home at one point. But like he said, no kingdom should be made on the backs of slaves. Slavery is disgusting and I think that doing the same as Seti I is wrong. But Moses was doing what god told him and despite the chance of him getting KILLED multiple times Moses STILL tried to talk to Rameses because that was his brother at one point in his life.
