The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Movie Description:

Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and his companions continue their journey east and brave many dangers on their way to the Lonely Mountain, culminating in an encounter with the fearsome dragon Smaug.  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is a 2013 epic high-fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson and produced by WingNut Films in collaboration with New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Warner Bros. Pictures served also as the distributor and is the second instalment in the three-part film series based on the novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. The film was preceded by An Unexpected Journey (2012) and followed by The Battle of the Five Armies (2014); together they operate as a prequel to Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.  The film follows the titular character Bilbo Baggins as he accompanies Thorin Oakenshield and his fellow dwarves on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. The film also features the vengeful pursuit of Azog the Defiler and Bolg, while Gandalf the Grey investigates a growing evil in the ruins of Dol Guldur. The ensemble cast includes Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom.  Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro wrote the screenplay. The films were shot simultaneously in 3D at a projection rate of 48 frames per second, with principal photography taking place around New Zealand and at Pinewood Studios. Additional filming took place throughout May 2013.  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug premiered on 2 December 2013 in Los Angeles and was released internationally on 11 December 2013 in both conventional and IMAX theatres. The film received mostly positive reviews and has grossed over $959 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing both The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2013.

I'm one of the few that doesn't mind the romance aspect between Kili and Tauriel. Undoubtedly it was filler but I also think it serves a purpose in showing the rift between the Dwarves and the Elves from a perspective which isn't Thorin's. The effect of the seven Dwarf rings only further added to the growing rift, not corrupting the Dwarf lords but instead making them more greedy and thus the people will follow the example of their ruler. Kili and Tauriel, while is love at first sight, also remind us that the unexpected does happen, the races aren't completely cut off from one another and that the most unlikely things find a way to happen in the end. I'm certainly not clued up on the books and history regarding Elves and relationships with other races, before Arwen and Aragorn the only other one I've heard of is Beren and Luthien (which Aragorn sings about one night whilst escorting the Hobbits to Rivendell). I think this budding romance shows despite what you're raised to believe and hear about something, actually interacting with (insert here) allows you to form your own opinion and gives you the opportunity to break away and potentially break the cycle of narrow-mindedness and its teachings. Tauriel in this instance becomes the goose of her woodland kin, seeing someone for who they are instead of what they are. I apologise for a lengthy insight but if you do read this, I hope it somewhat helped you to understand but it's not for everyone, if you don't like it then you're fully entitled to feel as such. Also lastly, before I forget, the scene with Kili having just been healed, he's barely conscious and delirious so he isn't even fully aware he's speaking to Tauriel, just someone who looks like her. It's probably similar to someone who's had an anasthetic but is more coherent in both thought and speech. Love your reaction anyway, I'm very thrilled you're doing these.
