Tristan is book 1 in the Tristan series, which follows Tristan and Alex through their tumultuous lives and adventures.

Book 1 is Tristan’s quest for revenge at all costs against the people responsible for his incarceration. From breaking out of the prison ship he wakes up on, to tracking down who they are, and finally making them pay. And woe to anyone who gets in his way

Tristan is the first book I published, and while it isn’t the first story I completed, I believe it was the first one of my ‘second writing’ period where I consciously decided not to make it pornographic. I don’t recall if I planned on making this general audience, but it wasn’t going to cross into the ‘x’ rating.

The idea came to me while/after watching ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury’. I wondered what would my version of Riddick be, and what if he was one of the prisoners released to capture him.

Riddick has a cameo in the original-original version of the story since at that point, it was just written as an exploration of who Tristan would become. I removed him when I decided this book would be published, and using an original character of mine allowed me to take that sequence in a different direction since I didn’t have to respect someone else’s property.

When I wrote it, there was no intention of making a series out of the story. As I said, it was just an exploration and by the time I was done, I was happy with it. Tristan was a much darker character than Riddick is ever portrayed as. He wasn’t a ruffian with a heart of gold, he was an outright bad person out for revenge because someone wronged him. He took out anyone in his way without prejudice.

His only moto is “I will survive.”

An epilogue was added after readers on the site I serialized the story gushed over the romantic aspect of the story. Rereading the story, trying to understand what they were talking about (I think I found it, and if I’m right, it’s one line that turned the way Tristan uses Alex into something they found romantic), I did notice a detail about Alex I wanted to address, so I wrote the epilogue to show that life continued on, even if the story was done.

That epilogue is nothing like the one in the published book. It’s basically the meeting between Alex and Tristan from book 3.

The prologue was added because I felt chapter one started too abruptly. While I like the prologue by itself, I don’t care for it as part of the book, except that it’s Miranda’s introduction, and she took on a larger role in the book and the overall series than I’d anticipated.

As always, I welcome questions, opinions, and comments.
