We have updated the donations amount with the funds raised in December 2015, as always you can find all details in our dedicated page: http://www.unseen64.net/how-to-he..

  • Preservation Fund @ November 2015:
    • Total: 1,880.23 $ (from Patreon + One-Off donations)
  • New Patreon Donations from December 2015:
    • +$241.00 Processed
    • -$18.55 CC Fees
    • -$12.05 Patreon Fees
  • New Total:  2,090.63 $

Planned Expenses:

About 600 $ = Unseen64 server cost 2016 + 24/7 technical support (from August 2016 to August 2017).

About 600 $ = an estimate of the cost to print and ship Unseen64 books (when they will be finished) to each author that contributed with at least a few great articles for the book.

Before to start to rise donations for the Unseen64 server 2017 (from August 2017 to August 2018, we will probably start at the end of 2016), future donations will be set aside in a "Preservation Fund", for emergency site expenses.

  • About 890.63$ = as usual we will open a discussion on Patreon when there will be possible expenses, for now this amount remains in the Preservation Funds

    for future needs.

POLL: Should we start to use part of the Preservation Fund to add even more unseen games in the site?

Other great websites like Hardcore Gaming 101 are successfully adding more and more games in their archives thanks to paying authors for good articles.  As Unseen64 is mostly written by volunteers, we don't get any money for the articles we write and currently we are not able to add more than 4 games a month, as we spend the rest of our time for our day-jobs.  As we have enough donations in the Preservation Funds to be safe with emergencies, we are thinking about to expand the Unseen64 archive. If we start to pay a little money for good articles, then we could do less freelance work and use some of that time to add even more lost games to the archive.  Wouldn't it be awesome to preserve 8 (or more) lost games every month, instead than just 4?

As we would still like to have a core of articles made by passionate, volunteers writers, we though about a special kind of payment-system: we would not pay an author for their first monthly article, but only from the second one. This means that each author will have to write at least 1 not-paid good article every month, before to be paid for their second (and third, and so on) good article. Naturally the pay would be related on the length of the article (short article = less - longer, deeper articles = more), but we still need to decide about the numbers (we'll have another poll in the future about it).

What do you think about this system? Could it help to save more beta / cancelled games in the unseen archive? Please, leave your comments below! Let us know what you think!

We think that this is not our money, the use of donations in the Preservation Fund is discussed with all the contributors that help to preserve lost videogames in the Unseen64 online archive. We keep this page updated each month, so you can track down how many donations will be raised and how they will be used.

Big gaming networks such as IGN or Kotaku have the resources to own powerful servers and to pay a team to work full-time on their websites, keeping their sites online and publishing daily updates. We don’t have their resources, but we think we have something better: we have you, a community of gamers that know why it’s important to remember beta and cancelled games. Thanks for your support!

I think it'd be a great idea to have a few more articles published on the site. Just assuming that the quality was there? Only paying for the 2nd article+ would be a good way to start

ideed, we are also thinking about some kind of system that would pay more previously unknown lost games or important beta games that no other sites already covered, so that the articles with new, exclusive and great analysis would be paid more thant articles with something that is already out there. We'll have a dedicated poll about this system in the following weeks, every suggestion is welcome! :)
