So in Spanish we have 2 phrases that translate to I love you. There’s “Te amo” that means I completely love you and there’s “Te Quiero” that means kind of I care about you (there’s no exact translation). But, Te Quiero is like a less impactful I love you which is the one they used here.

Did not know that. Don't speak a word of Spanish beyond Hola but watched Ugly Betty religiously when I was younger. Betty and her dad would always say "Te Quiero" to each other so I assumed that meant like familial love or something.
