i said in the live stream but i can't get over how much this show reminds me of a darker, grittier miranda! if anyone hasn't seen the show miranda, it's absolutely hilarious! it's definitely not one to judge with a 2023 lens but after a bad day i know its gaurunteed to make me laugh. i'm excited that this show is done in a similar style and am looking forward to watching it

I wasn't in the chat, but if it wasn't explained and you see these comments; yes, many UK comedies do have only six or eight episodes in a season. In the case of Fleabag, this is actually adapted from Phoebe Waller-Bridge's one woman play. It was meant to be the one stand alone six episode season. She then decided to write a sequel of sorts, which is the second six episode enclosed story. While the first season is amazing, it's actually the second season that garnered all the acclaim and awards. The second season is one of the few pieces of media that I consider to be perfect.

UK shows generally have way shorter seasons than US shows...which is such a giant shame!! They're SO GOOD!!!

I think it's just a combination in the difference from how they are made most of the time, and culture difference. The amount of UK shows like this that are created and written by a single person alone is very high, compared to the long series like Modern Family that have 20+ writers or something crazy which is very normal in the US. And the tv networks don't need or look for crazy long shows to fill time, they look for very good quality stories and shows regardless of length so there's no pressure to turn your story idea into something longer to fit a schedule or "season" (this is a BBC show, not an Amazon show). And because this was the true for a very long time, the public don't have expectations. I do sometimes wish they were a bit longer at times though, 6 episodes can be enough but 8-10 is what I personally generally prefer as the lower end.

British shows, comedies and dramas both, typically have very short seasons, 6 or 8 episodes. And the production team & writers most often are contracted only for that season. If they decide to make another, everybody has to be rounded up all over again. In this case, there was a story that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (the writer of every episode, as well as the star) wanted to tell, and it ended after 6 episodes. Eventually she saw a way to expand the story for exactly 6 more, and they did; and that's the whole series. If you were ever to decide to react to the whole series, you'll find it a very satisfying experience. It's all on a high level, the writing & acting are consistently top-tier.
