2023-07-05 17:12:52 As Snow explains earlier in the film, a little hope is what they give by having a winner who's family is then well of and taken care of. But too much hope is dangerous and not what they are trying to do. This then plays out when Katniss and Rue share a bond and Katniss looks after her, cares for her, and grieves for her. She then lays her to rest, and shows respect to the district that lost her. It was a spark of something different, the start of showing real hope that there is more than just the games. The rule change at the end was to break her as a symbol, have her kill to be the winner bringing her down to the same level as everyone else rather than a pure symbol of defiance and hope. It's why the guys failure to pull it off was so bad, and resulted in his death. The films are not really about the games, it's not the focus instead it's the background to a very different type of story. But you need to watch all of them to appreciate it. And there are things missing from the films that do explain more details of various things, like Haymitch's history and how he got to where he is.

So with Gale being entered in 42 times, you put your name in one more time each year. So Prim would be entered twice at 13, three times at 14, etc. But kids can also enter names in more times in exchange for a year’s supply of free flour, sugar, etc. I forgot the exact food items from the books. But at Gayle’s age of 16 or 17, each year’s supply of pantry type items is 5 or 6 entries each.
