I think the Spinner story was more on the reputation side of things. As you said, he’s kind of the boy who cries wolf, because of the trouble he’s presumably caused in the past. In the end, it was his reputation that screwed him over. So, he was doubly punished in a way.

you'll see spinner tends to get himself into trouble a lot, even when he's right, and this is the beginning of that. It's a bit of a lame story but it just shows spinner ruins his own life a lot by trying to find shortcuts lol.
