Queen Charlotte got really good reviews and fans really liked it, too. The younger version of the queen is really similar, but it gives you insight into how she and the king got together. I didn't find her insanely likable, but I thought the story outweighed that. Maybe you could check out the first episode and see how you like it.

i've heard it's darker too, thanks to the stuff it touches on lack of mental healthcare and compassion of the time. i can't touch that, so i'm steering clear of it but i've heard lots of people really enjoy the series and appreciate what they do with it

I would love it if you watched Queen Charlotte too. I know you're not a fan of the queen but this mini-series is absolutely wonderful and the story is very captivating. I think you would really like it

okay now i can leave my long comment lol for the queen, her show showcases her coming into power and the strings pulled around her behind the scenes. it also goes into the trauma and pain of her love with the king. you seemed kind of confused about the king this episode, acting like he'd been in a comma. when i first watched, i'd assumed it was dementia. but we know that the king actually IRL had a mental issue that his problems stemmed from starting at a very, very young age. queen char's show delves into that, as well as touches on the medical (torture) devices used to cure (hinder) him. it's supposed to be a lot darker and i've heard good things about it. also the actress playing the queen is so incredible. she's got her mannerisms down pat. lady danbury and violet also are in that show. edwina is really starting to annoy me and i am not a fan of this storyline at all. i get that she's in pain and feels hurt and betrayed. but the things she says to kate cross so many lines here. that "half sister" comment makes me physically recoil every time. and i absolutely hate that their mother sided with edwina and shooed kate away. kate already feels like an outsider with them and in that moment, i feel like that was almost solidifying it for her that she is. eloise and theo cannot be a thing, and if eloise is caught with theo, she could be ruined. her family could be ruined. please keep that in mind going forward. she's playing a very risky game here and while i love her, i think it's showing how spoiled she really is. daphne never tried to hide that she was a bit....well, spoiled for lack of better term. but el always acts like she's so above it. but what she's doing here shows tremendous immaturity and disregard. which i think is upsetting to pen to see. i get it. i do. the heart wants what the heart wants and i fully support that. but el doesn't seem to understand the consequences of what she's doing in persuing this. i LOVED the ending with daphne saying "shall we go home mother" and the two of them leaving with their heads held high. it was such a graceful, classy moment and showed a united front in their family, in spite of the storm that is sure to be brewing. i cannot wait for the next episode!!

the queen charlotte spin-off is a prequel looking back on how she became queen and also with a lot of backstory for lady danbury. a very very good show!!
