Just give it time lol it's goes back and fourth with the adults more and they get to highschool kinda like how it started with boy meets world! But I totally feel like you need to watch 2 episodes at a time at least to get anything they are really short

The show starts off as 7th and 8th grade (junior high), and once they get into high school grades the show moves to focus on high schoolers only for the entire rest of the show. So while Seasons 1 - 2 are probably the "lightest" seasons of the show since they are young, they are really good seasons for developing the characters and their major storylines. That doesn't mean there aren't storylines that aren't meant for a kids show, you will still see those "dark" storylines but they are more common after S1 This episode was for sure a filler, but also setup the characters a bit, you will see adults storylines for the first few seasons there's just some episodes primarily focused on the school. I promise you will enjoy this show as it soars off it gets so much better each episode. It really hasn't found it's identity yet in S1. I agree you should watch 2 episodes a week, maybe even back to back as there are so many episodes watching 2 episodes back to back does make you more invested in the show I believe rather than if you to were to watch a filler episode on Monday, and then an important episode on Friday, that's just my take.

Melissa McIntyre (Ashley) would have been 15 when the first season aired. Same with Drake and Shane (Spinner). I don’t think she looks that old. She's just taller, and Toby is short. Jake Goldsbie (Toby) is only two years younger than her. This is the first season, so they're setting up a junior high situation, but when Season 3 hits... everyone is in high school and they abandon the junior high concept. They were probably trying to set up something similar to the original series (Degrassi Junior High and then Degrassi High for the remainder of the seasons). Also, I do genuinely believe that there are still really good stories for children this young, especially the eighth graders! Also I absolutely LOVE Liberty. She's my favorite as well as Manny, although we haven't gotten much from her. Another thing to remember is that this is an ensemble show so a lot of people who were heavily featured in one episode with the primary storyline might be a background character in the next episode and entirely not be there in another episode. Some characters genuinely do get more story than others, but there’s at least an attempt to spread the love.

Emma's acting.....anyway I wont get into that but I get it. But yes, as everyone else has already said...the show grows with the characters and eventually you don't get 7th or 8th graders at all. Season 1 has some pretty good episodes but there's a lot of getting to know the characters. My two favourite characters of 1st gen Degrassi get introduced in Season 2 so that might be one of the reasons I think the show picks up way more then but I also think the storylines and acting are just generally better in season 2. I think you'll enjoy it more as the characters age up but someone else mentioned its similar to Boy Meets World in that sense. Cory those start off in 7th grade and its a bit more lighthearted but the stories get deeper and more interesting as they age and this is very similar.

Season 1 borrows a lot of their story lines from the Degrassi junior high and Degrassi high so there’s that. But there are intense episodes and light episodes like everyone has said.

cil

this is imo the weakest episode of season 1. im glad we're past it lol. it's only uphill from here

JT is one of my favorite characters, glad you like him :)

Also, like others said, season 1 is the weakest season like any other show in this category. Season 2 gets a bit darker and serious, but season 3 is where it really shifts and fully forms into a drama high school. Youre basically getting the vibe of the characters for season 1. I think everyone is right and you should double up. There are tons of 2 parters, though.
