YASSSS I love this one. I feel like this is when the episodes kick up a notch

J

Such a great episode!! Probably my favorite of season 2 and top five of the show.

Tyler Mckenzie

The woman who talks to Piper when she's her future self is Jennifer Hale, she is a voice actress known for Avatar Kyoshi, Princess from the Powerpuff Girls and many more. I've also met her at Conventions.

Trevon

Steven my boy you might need a morality lesson too lol. Someone who is a murder most likely didn’t start with that. They start small and then when they get away with that stuff they go bigger and bigger and over time things escalate to murder. They were using their power for revenge, so what happens when someone does something they don’t like what’s yo stop them for using their power to revenge then, because according to you they deserve it

Robke

I see your point here. ;D for most people doing a small thing like putting poop on someone's shoe wouldn't send them down the path which ends in justifying or committing murder. But it did for them, and it began with this moment, so right there and then they had a chance to learn what their future selves would become if they allow the power to get to their heads. xD for someone else maybe 10 years later wouldn't be such a drastic change, maybe they remain same doing things small revenge for shitty dog owners, while others could be worse, depends on who you are really. I agree that it makes no sense for Phoebe to burn for something she didn't do yet, but I think she realised this was a lesson she must learn, so it wouldn't be as effective or impactful if she ran away. It was quite a risk though, at that point they didn't know if they would go back in time yet. The dude Piper was making out with past episode was random, but she never knows when or if she sees Leo again, the only thing we still know is that witches and whitelighters aren't allowed to get involved..so whatever xD

Gigi

lol I don't usually do long-winded comments but here it goes: Prue Moved the poop. He saw exactly where his dog pooped then it magically moved so it would be under his foot. Then He turned and happened to see them staring at him through the window. This action isn't what caused the witch trials. His keeping a suspicious eye on the sisters and most likely catching them on several occasions over the years is what caused it. Phoebe killing the baseball player on camera was their nail in the coffin. The lesson was: Do not use your powers for personal gain, no matter how small, because once you cross that line...again no matter how small; it will be easier and easier to break the rules over and over again. Until eventually ending up with something like murder, and taking justice into your own hands. Even though she killed to avenge someone who was wrongfully killed...she still killed, and taking a life is wrong regardless of the reason. Pheobe understood that even though her past self wouldn't do that, her future self would and did. They couldn't go back in time to stop it because there was no spell to get there. Unfortunately, the only way was to ride it out and truly understand the lesson, which yay they did lol and the Elders (ancestors) sent them back because they did. I hope that helps haha. I love your reactions.

Robke

People who have a tendency to be vindictive and seek revenge aren't necessarily prone to murder. ;D most people do want to get back at someone when they get angry and truly believe some kind of action to get back at them is warranted, but murder or even violence is a line not everyone would cross no matter how angry they are.

Robke

Yeah he was probably stalking the sisters for years watching what they do before Phoebe killed the baseball player. So Witch Trials weren't started because of dog poop, it was later on, and he must've seen the girls do more shady shit as we get a glimpse of what's in the future Book of Shadows, their morals slowly going bankrupt lol.

Trevon

You’re forgetting a big factor their power and power corrupts. They are more powerful then anything on the earth. How easy would it be to slip when your angry? If someone you loved got hurt and you have the power to get away with it? All you have to do is justify it! for example Pratt is always having his dog poop on their lawn so he deserves it. This guy cursed at me so he deserves this. This guy hurt my friend so he deserves this! It always starts small

Robke

Maybe if I had Prues power it would be super easy to just shove someone into the wall in the heat of the moment, haha. Otherwise I don't see the difference, can still hurt or kill people just as much without powers, there are weapons, but if I do not believe in killing another human being, no amount of powers would change it. If I had them, I might be more likely to cross other types of lines, especially those for personal gain, murder is quite extreme and irreversible, someone who is firmly against and incapable of it wouldn't become more likely to do it if they did other type of morally wrong acts.

Trevon

They don’t just have their active powers they can cast spells. But trust me it’s est to say I’d never do XYZ but then you have the power to do anything in world it’s easy to just justify anything.

This episode is one of my fav the whole series. The sisters have been super lax with personal gain throughout the show so far. I think it's good that they learn this really severe lesson not to play around with it because it's true. First it's just manipulating the elevator (like Prue did before her interview at Buckland's in season 1), then it's dog poop, then it'll snowball until they're doing bigger and bigger stuff. It's not crazy to imagine any of them being so overwhelmed with grief at that point where personal gain isn't something they even consider anymore that they do what Phoebe did.

Robke

I get what you mean, it starts small and then it grows, slowly corrupts a person. I just believe there are some lines people simply won't cross. Death is irreversible, while many other forms of revenge could hurt someone without taking their life. I think in many cases rage is what blinds people to do it, not that they're so powerful and corrupted that they feel entitled and justified, it's just anger blinds them completely into seeing one outcome only. But power of any kind doesn't change a person, it simply reveals their true colors. Many powerful people in this world, the rich and influential can easily get other people to kill for them to avoid consequences for themselves, but not all of them do.

J

The episode is called morality bites. It is all about morality and ethics. Two wrongs don't make a right that basic principle. The point is that cutting corners and talking steps of revenge in order to benefit yourself is a slippery slope. While we only see this small baby step of the sisters moving the poop it open ups a new mindset. They had a conversation about how that action is personal gain and is against the rules and immediately explained it away and justified their decision. That thought process lives with them for the next 10 years until the small violations continue to grow and grow. You justify or explain away enough sooner rather than later you can convince yourself every action you take is just and right in your own mind. That is what eventually leads them to the people they become. Phoebe able to justify murder because she feels it is necessary and her sisters justifying breaking the rules to create money spells to save her. The episode is meant to show how much power they can truly hold and why the binds of the rules like personal gain exists.

Morality Bites is probably one of the best Charmed episodes hands down. I actually think the lesson is the best part of the episode. It didn't matter that the lesson was happening to their future selves, it was still them and if they weren't sent back to the present, this would be their lives. Like Trevon says, you generally don't go straight to murdering people, it snowballs. Them using their powers to punish their neighbor Pratt, put them on a dark path. I kind of thought the spells that were in the book and the fact that they weren't close anymore and all kind of miserable meant that they had all used their powers for personal gain at one point or another, Which is a reoccurring theme throughout the series.

Lol I just KNEW Steven was NOT gonna be into the moral of this episode 😂🤣

Ceara Abrahamsz

Personally, I completely understand how you start off doing something small and EVENTUALLY over time it grows and grows into something bigger and bigger. It’s like addiction, you start off small with drinking/smoking, and it grows into harder stuff. Revenge and vengeance can be like that for some people. They reason it in their head that it’s okay.

Regarding the Piper and random banker dude last episode...in the podcast, the actress for Piper, Holly, said that she felt that the production was out of order for these two episodes cuz it never made sense to her either. She greeted Leo here like she knew he was coming back, but she was just randomly getting off with someone else last episode? And for a loan, no less? She joked about being careful about the goody goody girls...lol I do believe you missed the point of the lesson though. It's not like they punished that guy for dog poo one day and immediately the next day Phoebe went and killed a guy. It took 10 years for her to reach that stage. It's quite believable. I think we all do it, most commonly with lies. We start out with the teeniest white lie and then years down the road, big lies are no big deal. Until we're caught, that is. Just like Phoebe was. And I think Phoebe knew she had to burn because at that point in time, there really was no hope of going back. She had accepted what she future self had done and was willing to be punished in the hopes that the witch hunt would end there. Or at least, that's what Leo hoped. Maybe Phoebe just knew she had to pay for her future self's crimes. I'm glad it worked out that way because they really didn't have a spell to go back and Leo's bosses probably wouldn't have sent them back to 1999 if they hadn't learned their lesson, went on the run and caused even more damage in this witch hunt malarky. Oh, and Pratt didn't start the witch hunt because of poo. He got suspicious of the sisters because of poo. He clearly saw his dog pooing on their drievway and the next minute it's on his shoe instead and the sisters are all looking at him? It's weird behaviour. He probably kept a close eye on them to catch any other weird behaviours and eventually finds out they're witches. Judging from the updated Book, the sisters grew more and more lax with personal gain and he probably saw them as evil and started the witch hunt. All in all, a pretty wonderful episode. Loved the storyline, loved the deeper insight into personal gain and the acting was phenomenal. They really shine at emotional scenes.

Stacey

This is a awesome episode (one of my faves) with a great lesson it's to bad Steven hated it like most of his reactions. He always tends to be so negative and only be vocal about the stuff he doesn't like which can be disappointing.

Therese Larsen

Idk why you got so caught up with Phoebe wearing a dress the last episode 😅 Just because she doesn’t work? What is she supposed to wear, sweat pants and t shirts? Dressed can be very comfortable to wear especially when it’s warm outside, and hers looked pretty comfy. It’s nice get a little dolled up sometimes too! I’m sure her not having a job or goes studying, that she doesn’t exactly feel good about it.

cruzinbosco

Damn, watching this in 2023 paints a new light on it. I feel like you could just replace the word "witch" with woman and it wouldn't feel all that foreign. Which I guess has always been the case, I just wasn't as aware when this aired. I was still young.

cil

lol he actually said he enjoyed this episode quite a bit and thought it was good overall, but that he just didn't like the ending because of the "lesson".

Stacey

I know I'm just talking in general during his reactions he more talks about stuff he doesn't like than does..so it can be a bit of a downer while watch them that's all

Stacey

I remember reading or seeing a interview from the actresses that they had a change of show runner in the second and third season and they wanted the girls to be dresses alot sexier etc

Robke

At the end of the day it's a TV show and producers always make actresses pretty to look at, so it's not that deep ;D guess Steven is used to the idea that a dress is usually for some occasion or more formal

skylar

The lesson was terrible but that's kind of the point? I feel like it gives kind of an insight to how excessive some of the aspects of being a witch is and what a burden it is. Since leo's "bosses" or whatever wanted to teach the girls a lesson over something that trivial and show them their future if they continue to do stuff like this I kind of got that it starts with the little things. Your reaction was funny though, you were not with it lol.
