YESSS. Also the main reason daphne and the duke are now not focused on is because the actor playing the duke wanted out. so daphne will pop in occasionally,but in future seasons I wouldn't expect characters to get cut in the same way necessarily. hope you enjoy season 2 as much as the rest of us. i think it's 100 times better than season 1

Eloise and Penelope are the best ones by far. They both get stories throughout the seasons so far. But the focus this season is actually going to be Broadchurch Olly and Sex Ed Ruby. I personally truly thought Benedict, the second oldest brother was gay, but apparently I'm mistaken. Speaking of which, the vibe between her and Antony is supposed to be a Beatrice and Benedict from Much Ado About Nothing vibe, if you get that reference. Basically, two strong willed people who "hate" each other but are clearly attracted. The younger sister being his "ideal" is a decent twist on the concept. And yes, until somewhere in the 20th century, a woman's main job in life was to marry well and have babies. Men could choose when they marry. Antony is only marrying because he's the heir to the family's money, so he has to have a son rather than let the next brother down and his kids get everything when he dies.

I worry if you can't find Kate likable who's considered a fan favorite along with Queen Charlotte then yes you'll continue to struggle. I feel like you're not truly grasping the stakes or motivations from the female characters like with Daphne last season. In her case, yes, she's not as likable but but her motivations and the stakes made her choices more understandable. How little choice and options women had and how much control men have. That even rumor destroys the lives of women. Only women of high wealth can choose independence and even that is rare. People like Eloise are privileged in their ability to be so against marriage because Eloise is the second daughter in a wealthy family. There are smaller stakes for her. Kate is similarly motivated for independence but her motivations for marriage are solely for her sister and her family she strives for her sister to succeed and have the best but also for her to have love. She wants it all but she wants it for Edwina. Also her and Edwina are half sisters, so they share the same father but different mothers. Mary, the mom, is Edwinas mom but Kate's stepmom. Last thing, no Mary, the mom, does not know Kate has not told either of them she's stubborn and determined to fix all of their problems on her own for reasons that become clear as the show advances.

In terms of the rules each season of the show is a new wedding season. So usually a year has passed between each. Each season will focus on a new Bridgerton child finding love. Season 1 was Daphne. Season 2 Anthony. I won't spoil the third season even though if you see anything related to the show I'm sure you'll know. So the focus shifts each season with the couple from the season before moving from main characters to supporting characters.

oh no you're the first person i've seen say kate was unlikeable haha. i think she'll win you over, but she's a lot like Anthony was with daphne in season 1; she is just relentlessly pursuing a good marriage for her sister, and nothing else matters. i don't think she is ever quite as rude again as she was to lady danbury in this episode

This season is so much more enjoyable than season 1 - I didn't even finish that one. Kate and Anthony are very similar when it comes to wanting the best for their siblings. Anthony was annoying in the same way in the first season trying to get Daphne married to someone who would be able to take care of her. At this point, Kate thinks Anthony is a horrible person who won't give her sister the true love she thinks she deserves. I think Kate will grow on you.

context: she's like, my favorite out of the series aside from anthony and eloise, and i'm super protective of her as a character. i genuinely do not see what about her could be unlikable but i'll still give this a shot. maybe she'll end up changing your mind

that's what I said! I haven't seen anyone react and say she's unlikeable so I'm worried lol her choices may be questionable but she's one of the most likable characters like Anthony. Its what for me makes this season so great

i haven't watched his reaction yet but i'm lowkey nervous. what about her did he not like? she's one of my most driven ,kind-hearted, compassionate, and still badass characters. in an era where women didn't have much of a say, she can hold her own and i love that. i thought for sure, with how much he likes eloise, that he'd really enjoy her character a lot. i know not everyone has to like every character but......it's kate! kate!!! lol

2023-04-04 15:26:28 i kind of wish other patreons hadn't built up season 2 as being so great because i feel like now your expectations will be too high lol. if you don't like kate...chances you are, you aren't going to love this season. i hope the people in the comments can learn to be okay with that and just appreciate your authentic reaction, regardless of whether or not you like the characters or season 2 as a whole.

wait, he doesn't like Kate? I was actually looking forward to these reactions but I can't watch someone hate on Kate. She is easily one of the best characters.

i think we are all just stunned tbh because of his issues with daphne i thought he'd totally be down for a strong woman like kate to come along and for there to be a whole season about her. i've seen countless bridgerton reactions and never have encountered anyone who didn't like kate. season 2 IS all we hyped it to be to many of us...if you like kate. him not liking kate is a shock. no one has to like every character but...it's kate!! i'm not even sure what there is to really not like to the point others are worried it'll damper the entire season.

right?? i feel like these poor regency girlies just can't win lol he doesn't like daphne because she's softer and plays society's game in a seemingly passive manner. he doesn't like kate either, who isn't just passively playing the game and who speaks up and has a mind of her own (not that daphne didn't have these things too). it's just like....poor girls. damned if they do damned if they don't

I agree I was just surprised because while all these characters may have their flaws like anyone else Kate as a character is beloved because she’s strong in a way Daphne wasn’t but she still understands the reality of her time in the regency era. And her motivations are to gain protection from marriage like Daphne’s but it’s more necessity and out of sisterly love. Hopefully as the season progresses he’ll like Kate. Was surprising to see someone not like Kate Sharma that’s all

eh, i think kate is fairly mediocre as a character. so im actually not that surprised by him disliking or at the very least not being won over by her immediately. anywho, i think if people are here to watch his authentic reaction to the show -- it shouldn't matter how he feels about kate. reading some of these comments it seems like some people are more than just surprised...but genuinely bothered by him not loving kate lol. which is bizarre to me. i loved season 1. stephen didn't. im okay with that and it didn't impact my enjoyment of watching him react to the first season. ::shrugs::

Lol I don’t think either one of us can speak for how others feel. We’re both just giving our interpretation of the comments and it looks to me like some people are in their feelings about his reaction. The comment below me literally says “I can’t watch him hate on Kate”. Which I find hilarious. And I know plenty or viewers who didn’t love Kate so him not loving her isn’t that surprising to me. ::shrugs::
