The decision to kill off Andy stems from the fact that the writers felt the character had run his course and they felt he had become a hard character to write for once he knew the girls secret. They just kept seeing the vision of him trying to solve crimes parallel to the girls and felt like the character would be relegated to just passing his job over to the girls each episode. Overall I think because audiences were not overly connected to him and they were in their first season they felt the shock of his death would end the first season with a bang.

Really??? The whole time I thought it's because he got a role in another show. Read this online years ago and believed it ever since

Adrian

I loved Andy too

Mike Smith

It was never confirmed the exact reason. There was also a lot of speculation that he and Shannen couldn't get along and hated each other.

Well..the fans warned you season 1 isn't great. :) I remember being so upset over Andys death and just in complete denial, thinking he'd somehow be back. Andy was a big reason why I still really enjoy season 1, him contributing as a human policeman was awesome, also for someone else to finally know the truth. He was a great character. I too felt like I couldn't enjoy the show as much moving forward but believe the fans when they say the best part of Charmed is soo not in S1. Andy was always missed and I wondered in some future episodes how things would unfold if he was still part of the show. Still really enjoyed the reaction, I agree with your logic at the end that there was a better solution which would save Andy, they didn't try that hard, I guess it's cuz Prue saw him in her unconscious state. P.S. The IA guy was not possessed, he was always a demon, this episode he even said he pretended to be an agent but literally that second you took your earphones off lmaoo

Okay, no offense to your love for Andy but he's probably one of the weakest characters in the Charmed universe. Trust me, season 2 is way better and the show seriously hits its stride in season 3. It IS a little poorly executed for Andy's goodbye but I was okay with it. There were a lot of rumours about why he was written off but one of the main ones was that they had nowhere else to go with his character and I agree. I thoroughly enjoy what they do in season 2 to fill Andy's gap and I have a pretty good feeling you will too. It's LOADS better than what season 1 has been.

It's a good sign he enjoyed Andy, makes me think future characters will truly get him into the show ;D

Jordyn is correct as that is what Constance Burge (the creator) stated as the reason in an interview with TV Zone. However, I am not sure I believe her as it makes little sense knowing what happens shortly after. 🤷‍♀️ Ted definitely had no other major role after leaving Charmed until General Hospital in 2002. As for Shannen, rumors were crazy back then. It could be true, but it was likely just media drama.

Honestly, Andy's death seemed right. Although, the way the show wrote it was not the best. Andy's character had no where to go (storyline wise). He knew of the sister's secret, he was investigated by internal affairs, and quit his job. Even if they wrote that he got his job back, all of his cases would have been handed over to the sisters. It was also clear the relationship between Prue and Andy wasn't really going anywhere. The character of Andy was in a corner and had no major storyline anymore. So, I believe that the show made the right decision to write him off. Season 2 is amazing, and so are the characters in it. Season 2 is the turning point for the show, the seasons just get better from here out.

Yes I agree knowing the plan for future characters that being the reason to kill him off is flimsy but that’s the reason they gave I think I could see it being true especially if the writers at the time wrote themselves into a corner and weren’t creative enough to navigate out. When I first watched the show I felt Andy’s death was so hard as a viewer but now upon rewatching many times I actually like the choice.

I like Andy as much as the next guy, but I thought it was a good finale. It upped the stakes on the show since until now it was all good always wins and we fix everything by the end of the episode. And I agree with others, his character arc has outrun its course, it was a good time to end it, I don't really see a good future storyline for Andy. I also want to point out that a big theme that runs through the show is Destiny and that some things are meant to happen. Which was reinforced in this episode in the Prue/Andy dialogue where he explains to her that this is just his time and he is ok with that; and that they can't risk restarting the day and giving the demon a chance to succeed this time in destroying Power of Three and possibly killing all 3 of the sisters. Now, was it executed perfectly? Obviously, not. But it is the first season, which kind of feels like more of a trial run for the show. It starts basically a new era season 2 with some big changes and additions that become the quintessential "Charmed".

"It upped the stakes on the show since until now it was all good always wins and we fix everything by the end of the episode." Yesss, well said

Denise McClymont

honestly the show keeps getting better in season 2 and on

Therese Larsen

No pleeease tell me you’ll keep watching, season 2 and especially season 3 is when the show gets GOOD, like season 1 doesn’t compare.

Rida

I know this was the official reason but it makes no sense considering the future of a certain character. I always thought the rumours about either the actor who plays Andy wanting a bigger role, or Shannen and him just not getting along great seemed more plausible.

DC

I get not liking losing a character you like, but that doesn't make it bad. It wasn't a bad ending for Andy as a character. He died a hero, saving the woman he loved. Looking at the arc of his life, it's honestly fairly fitting.
