sometimes i forget just how ground-breaking this show was. friends came out in 1994. reba came out in 2001. friends had monica sleep with a guy "out of wedlock" and faced immense push-back because of it. monica, an adult, single woman. her just hooking up with a guy caused that much outrage in 1994. here is reba in 2001, featuring a teen pregnancy where the storyline isn't preachy, and is one of love and care. idk, it's just hitting hard right now. what i love about this show is the dynamic of everyone. it seems as if it could be so messy - and in many ways it is. there's a teen pregnancy and marriage, both parties living under the mother's roof. the mother is divorced from the father, the father had an affair and got his mistress pregnant. it all seems like it could be full of hate and anger. but at the heart there's so much love there. one of my favorite dynamics of this show that you caught a small glimpse of here is the one between brock and reba. often times divorced couples are shown as absolutely hating one another and being very angry with one another, which can be absolutely justified. but with brock and reba, you really can see why they were married in the first place and see the love and respect they have for one another. it didn't work for them as husband and wife, but it works for them as a mother and father if that makes sense. just a very good, heartwarming episode from a very good, heartwarming show

also i want to add i love cheyanne and van. i love that they're written as immature kids - because kids are, but they also have a strong and genuine love for one another and both want to make this work. that shows a lot of maturity in it's own rite. like sure the dallas cowboys cheerleader poster and all that shows some immaturity. and cheyanne not communicating shows immaturity. but the fact that they both really genuinely strive to make this work and want to do right by each other and hold being "husband and wife" in such high regard and their marriage being something they both respect and take seriously shows a lot of maturity.
