I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Lily's absence, but I do know that the actress, Kelly Rutherford, was in and out of court with her ex-husband over child custody issues and the filing of a restraining order during this time. She also had a newborn that summer, so I'm guessing it's a combination of the two. Unfortunately, the legal issues persist to this day. Her ex-husband was deported, which caused even more issues with custody and him not returning the children, forcing her to file for bankruptcy, a court ruling that he could keep the children in France, and so on. It's been a 13-year saga in which she is still fighting for her children.
