the goodbye to Cordelia will always bring a tear out of me

I watched Angel in its entirety ONCE because I hated what they did to Cordy's character and after learning about the WHY I hate it even more. I can't even like thesend off though I'm really glad that Charisma Carpenter agreed to return and give a proper closure to Cordy because the alternative would have been awful. In my head, until now, it doesn't register that Cordelia is dead. Something in that weird noggin just refuses to accept that.

Third time I've seen this episode lol. Still really depressing 😕

Charisma deserves this moment in the season. It sucks they killed her but it was def the only way to write her off the show if they couldn’t keep her. There’s no way cordy would willingly leave angel to fight alone.

This is the 100th episode of Angel. That’s why there are all the callbacks to the shows beginnings. Angel, Cordy, and Lindsay were the 3 that were all in the pilot episode and the 100th episode. God I love this one so much. It’s almost a perfect episode of tv for me. That last scene never fails to choke me up no matter how many times I’ve seen it. The Powers that Be granted Cordelia this one day to get Angel back on track before she passes on. That phone call at the end where Angel and the viewer realizes what is going in is just so heartbreaking. I’m so glad that Charisma Carpenter agreed to return for this episode even after being fired from the show for basically getting pregnant in real life. She had every right to be super bitter about it but decided to return for the fans and to give the character a true ending. I mean, it sucks that Cordy died but the other options were, she never wakes up and we never see her again and she’s just in a coma the rest of the show, they kill her offscreen, or Cordy wakes up but walks away from the gang (that would be out of character and unsatisfying). I really do think that this is the best way they could have played it out only having Charisma for 1 episode. We got an amazing hour of tv and got to have the real Cordelia back, with the same personality we’ve all loved and gets to go out a hero. And we get this episode as our final and lasting impression and not the end of season 4. For me, Cordelia’s arc and growth from season 1 of Buffy to this heroic ending is one of the great character arcs in TV history. It goes without saying that Joss sucks for what he did to Charisma and the behind the scenes stuff is disgusting. And I’d have rather had Cordy as a regular this season. But if this is all we get, it’s a damn near perfect ending for the character.

I don't know if you are specifically putting off reading about what happened behind the scenes stuff until the series is finished or if you are avoiding reading about so that it doesn't affect your opinions on the show, but at some point I feel like you should read into just how terribly Charisma Carpenter was treated by Joss Whedon. Cordelia was legit one of the best developed characters in the show, and it was almost entirely undone in a single season all because Joss is a terrible person. We wouldn't even have gotten this sendoff if Sarah Michelle Gellar didn't have a scheduling conflict.

Yea this episode is soooo bittersweet for me. Because Cordy is my favorite character in the whole Buffyverse and seeing her on screen just was amazing and truly reinvigorated the show for me. But then she died. I love that Charisma came back it was awesome especially considering how she was mistreated behind the scenes. It just sucks because Joss played her out so bad with that HORRIBLE season 4 storyline and then tossed her aside. Again love love love this episode but I would trade it in for just a removal of her season 4 arc and her sticking around. Love the final kiss for Angel and Cordy as well one of my favorite relationships in the Buffyverse, just well built up and their dynamic was amazing. Such wasted potential for them. Angel is still my favorite series when it comes down to Buffy or Angel and that is due to episodes like this and characterization. I always felt more connected to the characters on Angel than I did Buffy which is strange because Buffy was around first. Like the arcs that both Cordy and Wes have are fantastic. I always have felt that the writers here took the time to let their characters grow and develop with richer arcs and also built up all the interpersonal connections between all of the members of Angel Investigations. They always truly felt like a family to me in the way Buffy's Scooby gang never did.

While season 5 is hot garbage compared to season 4 (which is phenomenal btw) imo, this was a truly special episode. Really just goes to show that Cordelia's character was the heart of the show, and killing her off was a mistake.

If you rewatch the part where Cordy "wakes up", you'll realize she's the woman in the bed that Cordy says is "miss one foot in the grave." I wanted Cordy back so badly! But after what Joss did, Charisma only came back to give Cordy the moment and the send off she and Cangel deserved because Joss didn't allow her to come back as a regular because he's a DICK. But I'm so thankful that Cordy wasn't left forever in a coma... She deserved this.

I'm with you on the Angel characters. I like Wesley and Cordelia's arcs on Angel more than I like any of the arcs any of the scoobies had.

Personally I already felt like Cordy was past the point of adding much outside of the "love interest" for a little while even before the craziest parts of season 4. I like her getting a send off, and then the show carrying on. As a one off it was good. I just don't think she was adding much though. She had visions that weren't strictly necessary for the show as it was expanding (or at the very least was becoming a bit samey), and she was a will they won't they point over and over.

when you rewatch you'll find so many little hints throughout the episode that cordy knows she's going to die. at the beginning, the lady we see in the hospital bed who cordy says has "one foot in the grave" is actually HER. while watching the doyle video she tells angel "doyle used his last breath to get you to keep fighting, i get that now" (she gets it now because she is making the same choice in the episode). also, when she gets ready to apologize to wes for killing lilah she starts to say "im sorry. i just wanted to tell you that before i--", then she notices the book on the table and stops herself mid sentence. but i believe she was going to say "i want to tell you sorry before i die". i think its cool how they sprinkle so many hints throughout the episode that cordy knows she was only brought back temporarily to help angel get back on track and after the task is done, so is she.
