I think Brooke did not start 4 years ago. She started selling clothes in High school

The show is central to Tree Hill. They did not want to disconnect from the town.

You hit the nail on the head on the post episode commentary. It's not just about Jamie being older now, it's also as they all would have been in separate places for those 4.6 year's and the show is about Tree Hill. Also, it lends itself to the question 'Where do you see yourself in 5 years'; many of us don't end up where we think we're supposed to be a few years down the line. Life gets in the way, and sometimes we don't make the right choices. As far as Nathan, he's always been prone to making bad decisions, this is one he has to grapple with throughout this season. Season 5 and 6 are two of my favourites and one of the reasons is the evolution of the characters and how the actors get to act closer to their actual age now. Plus it's nice to get and adult Brooke and Peyton relationship at last.

Teen shows that followed the teens to college saw a drop in ratings because college isn't all that different from high school, particularly the high schools of teen dramas. I believe this is one of the main reasons for the time jump, as well as what others have said above, in that the show needed to find a way to keep up with everyone while still remaining in Tree Hill. Hilarie Burton also pointed out that not everyone attends college, so it would have been a very disjointed show with the characters spread out all over the country, some at college, some doing other things, and it would have not made any sense. NOTE: I should also mention that this season took place during the 2007-2008 Writers' Strike, which reduced the season from 22 to 18 episodes. It was actually only 12 episodes until the strike ended, after which they were able to complete 6 more. That is why, if anything appears rushed to you, it is because it was.

I think the Brooke storyline actually works, I know sometimes in the fashion world, or music or acting, sometimes success can happen almost overnight. Sometimes it takes years or never happens, but sometimes it can be real fast and Brooke was already having success in high school, being invited to fashion shows, having stores want to put her clothes in their displays, so I think it makes sense she was successful so fast, plus the show is showing despite having all the success she's always wanted she's still not happy. I think the time jump was a great decision, some shows struggle with the college years, having repetitive stories or struggling to find a good reason for everyone to stay near each other. I think this decision opens up their show to so many different potential storylines, they can do pretty much anything they want with the characters, while keeping them in college, would have locked the show into more typical stories.

I think people from the same high school experience varying amounts of success at different paces so everyone being at different stages of life makes sense, plus you have to remember where we left Brooke in season 4. She had a victoria secret contract, which probably launched her line into mainstream fashion since VS was big at the time. So in a way, it does make sense that she got everything she ever wanted so fast that she doesn't get to enjoy any of it... Nathan is an idiot, which is probably why he's self-hating and being a jackass lmao. But yeah, I love the coming seasons of the show. They're so good!

I came to write the same thing. She had a natural talent in high school which we saw through being invited to the shows and stores. It makes sense that she found success quickly. I do also like that it shows money and fame isn't enough. Despite her at the very beginning, she's always seemed to be longing for love and that seems to be missing for her even with the fame.

I was nervous for the time jump too but I 100% love it and in some ways I enjoy these seasons even more. Especially when I got older. I like that their ages are more reflected by the actors now because 2 years in show time aged the actors 4 years. I really appreciate the duality and the realness of this premiere. Despite money and fame, Brooke still is unhappy and longs for love/connections. Peyton and Mouth are still struggling to find their careers because a degree or experience doesn't necessarily mean you'll find your dream job. If Luke and Skills can't play basketball anymore at least they are coaches. Plus Luke had a great first book and struggling with the second feels realistic. The first was so personal. Haley became a teacher after loving tutoring but home life is still a struggle. And Nathan is well...Nathan. Making bad choices sometimes. In his defense (maybe) he was drinking so it wasn't a sober choice. Things sometimes happen when you drink. All in all, I'm really excited for you to enjoy this new era for OTH.

I think season 5 does a great job of looking back on key moments and the journey it took to get to those 4 years later where we are now. As for Brooke, just let it unfold - she has probably one of her most interesting seasons yet.

right exactly like i said myself that teen shows most of them tend to struggle when it comes to writing college. Its better to skip it then risk writing for it and then the show goes downhill because of it. Plus it would've been a big mess to try to write for everyone in different locations all at once. I sometimes forget s5 is a little bit shorter because so much happens in it and takes all my focus lol

I think they did the time jump for a few reasons. Most of the cast were already in their 20s in season 1 so they were done playing teens, especially since 2 seasons equalled 1 year in Tree Hill timeline. They also already did the school era so I get wanting to do an adult era now. Like you said, it also gives them a chance to have Jamie as a kid who can talk and have his own moments as opposed to just a tiny baby. They also wanted everyone reunited in Tree Hill instead of in separate places and to show the different stages they all are in their lives...It does actually work quite well.

Also, I fully believe that tlNathan WOULD have done something so dumb to derail his future. Haley might have bettered him but he never really had the big fame and fortune thing with her by his side. True to character to have him get drunk and get into a stupid fight. I think he needs this to truly evolve and not take what he has for granted. Although I will say, as someone who doesn't know much about sports at all, I didn't see the impossibility of Nate getting drafted for Seattle or his shoe deal after having played at a not so great school for college. I do enjoy Jamie a lot. He's a super cute kid and he plays off the other characters very well. I don't really know WHY they made him look like Luke’s mini me but he definitely plays the role well. As for Brooke, without spoiling it for you, there is a plausible reason why and how she managed to become the owner of such a big name brand and it will be revealed in the future. And they already did lay down the groundwork for her in season 4 with her clothing line and her Victoria's Secret deal. It also makes sense that she feels a lot of pressure at the age of 22 and wants to come back to a simpler time in Tree Hill. I think it's pretty realistic that some of them made it big like Brooke, some are trying to find the right path like Peyton and Mouth, some lost their way like Nathan and some are doing what no one thought they would like Haley and Luke. It's a pretty wild but thoroughly enjoyable ride. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season as we go along. This adult era we've got going on is my fav.

There's something else to Nathan's college journey. Just because he started at that small school doesn't mean that's where he ended up.
