I think it’s safe to say without spoiling anything that Lindsay has a plan to fuck with Angel that involves first, sending the amulet with spike in it to Angel, then sending the box that made Spike corporeal again, and now he’s setting Spike up to be the hero that Angel used to be. Taunting Angel and company for going to “the dark side” and making spike feel like he’s the one saving people and helping the helpless. The whole using the name Doyle thing is meant to mimic the very first episode of Angel where Doyle comes to Angel and says he gets visions from the powers that be and needs the vampire with a soul to help save those people. Lindsay isn’t going to use his real name so I feel like using “Doyle” is just a way to mess with Angel more. As for the appearance of “Buffy” in this episode with some lame sound bites and an obvious stand in, The reason Buffy the show ended was because Sarah decided she was done playing the character and wanted to move on to movies. I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for her to show up as the character on Angel less than a year after she “moved on”.

Lindsay explains the plan during the episode, they are trying to keep Angel a mess and make Spike seem like a hero - they are trying to seed doubt into who the senior partners are backing.

The next two episodes are two of my personal favorites from Angel overall! Can't wait to rewatch them with you!
