Rachel deserved the slap it was long overdue

thisismaria27

the showrunner put this story with the sextape in there to have the viewers hate Brooke bc the viewers loved her and he didn't like that (bc Sophia Bush who plays Brooke didn't comply with his nastyness and harassment). I personally don't love that but I guess it would be something Brooke and Nathan were capable of in the past.

I don't get why your so against Haley in this episode for the slap, usually in other reactions I've seen you want people to slap people. With everything Rachel did to Haley it made sense, The limo which almost killed Nathan and his uncle, trying to sleep with Nathan which was just at the beginning of the season and convincing her to help tutor her despite everything only to steal the test and get Haley fired from a job she needed and really cared about, which we've known since season one, how much she cared about tutoring people, that she could even see her self be a teacher. It was a lot, of course Haley hit her breaking point and slapped her. Plus she doesn't know that Rachel was trying to help Brooke. I don't fully know how I feel about the sex tape, a lot of people have a problem with it because they think it's out of character, but I don't, we all know how bad Nathan used to be and we've heard countless times how bad Brooke used to be, so I don't think it's out of character for them. I do think we were moving past all the Brooke, Peyton stuff and I don't think it was necessary to bring it back again, I kind of think that's annoying. I don't think the Mouth, Shelley storyline was written perfectly, but I do think that Mouth pressured her into sex, with everything she went through in her past, getting pregnant, having an abortion and all of her feelings about that, then Mouth coming at her with all the, you don't think I'm good enough, you don't want to be with me, your not attracted to me, until she slept with him, I think it makes sense that she left the way she did and says she can't be with him.

I really hated Mouth and his manipulation this episode. He basically was saying he just wanted to sleep with her even though he mentioned more. She wasn’t over her own past traumas and he made it all about him. We’ve seen him be kind and sweet to others, like when he dated Erica or GiGi. So why all the sudden pressure Shelly who you’ve barely gone out with? I guess his “Im the good guy” frustrations got the better of him. Or maybe because he knew she wasn’t a virgin like his past girlfriends. I’m not sure but it really made me dislike him.

Heather

Yep, he totally disregarded her reasons for starting Clean Teens and taking back her virginity. Whether he agreed or not, it's what she had to do process and take control of what she went though. He did not take that seriously. I do feel like he pressured her because of her past. He took advantage of the hot girl who wanted him who "wasn't really a virgin," (so it's ok), despite her obvious discomfort with the situation. He saw the girl from summer camp. Gigi was great, but he initially had to talk himself into going out w her over that random model. 🙄 He's always sought validation from the "hot" girls. This was his chance. It was all about him. He looks at being the nice guy and the friend as a bad thing. We've been doing this song and dance with him since season 2. It's annoying at this point and here we are.

Yeah, I think from Haley's pov, Rachel has caused nothing but trouble in her life. But from our pov, we see Rachel as a messed up character with a really good heart, so though the slap was well-reasoned, I don't like it either. But I'm not against Haley for it. Mouth's whole nice guy thing really pissed me off this episode. The manipulation was insane. Shelley is so torn, she needs to find a middle ground between who she was and who she is, because clean teens is not it, but Mouth fully took advantage of her identity crisis/vulnerability. Not to mention the trauma she has regarding sex considering she had an abortion and the guy she was with disregarded her in an instant when she got back to school. I think the reason her friends were more on her than Chase is because she was the founder of the club and held everyone else to an impossible standard. (she kicked Rachel out for getting naked at a party, which isn't technically breaking the no-sex rule either) From their pov, she created the clean teen standard and is now making out in the media centre between classes. But Mouth has always had this "it should be me" attitude about him, with all the girls. Even the episode when he was complaining about new guys was because he was always seen as the friend by all of the girls he deems hot. Then it took him a long minute to think about Gigi who was described as 'cute' instead. For me, it felt like he felt he could do better? Despite his 'woe is me' character flaw though, he always did the right thing in the end. Until now, when all of the respect he's had for the girls in his life, flew right out of the window with Shelley.

I guess my thing about the slap is that I believe if you hit someone don’t be surprised if they hit you back. Haley slapped knowing Rachel would not be able to hit her back. Yea Rachel is a bad person. She has done some bad stuff but Haley slapped her for something that happened a while ago. For what happen this episode you can only get one. Either the slap or the drink in face. You don’t get to bring up the past and slap her. Because if that’s the case everyone’s past in this show should be brought up constantly. Including Haley leaving and kissing Chris Keller. But that’s just my opinion.

AllieDoh

I agree with you on this. It should've been the drink OR the slap. But I guess in the moment, emotions high, pregnancy hormones etc... She just went for it. I do think if Haley wasn't pregnant and they did get into it, Haley would win though. No question.😂

AllieDoh

As for Brooke and Nathan, we forget they were awful in the beginning. However, I might be alone in this, but despite the reasons the sex tape was put in the show (to even out Brooke and Peyton), I still don't view it as bad as what Lucas and Peyton did to Brooke because the difference in relationships is like comparing mountains to molehills.

thisismaria27

I get that. I guess the other characters learned from their mistakes but with Rachel it's different. Haley was just fed up and let's be real Rachel had the nerve to show up at their house right after destroying Haley's reputation as a tutor. That would've sent me over the edge too.

Heather

The past? All of her issues with Rachel happened this season. In 409 (after she agreed to tutor her) and 412 (2 epis ago) Rachel was still making digs about sleeping with Nathan. It was just some big joke to her. Like it always is when she screws with people's lives. Why should Keller be brought up again? The person who Haley hurt, Nathan has forgiven her. She acknowledged her mistakes and grew from them. She spent a whole season working to regain his trust. That issue is resolved. Nathan has no right to bring that up again. Just like Lucas didn't when he brought it up again to Brooke at the wedding. You do not deserve to be held hostage for mistakes that are resolved. What has Rachel learned? All her shit is fair game. Learn things.

Heather

Anyway, the real villain in this epi is Mouth 🙄

Mariella Nilsson

Rachel deserved The slap and she can take it, she is not that fragile. Frankly haley should have slapped her along time ago. But attacking a pregnant woman is sociopathic, unless your life is AT risk wich it wasn't. Seeing haley slap rachel is one of The most satisfying scenens in The show! I will always enjoy it!

cil

i think your reasons for not liking the slap are valid and you shouldn't have to explain yourself lol. i personally was okay with the slap but i respect your opinion and understand why some people wouldn't be okay with it. anywho...the brooke/nathan sex tape is an interesting storyline. on the one hand, it's not completely far fetched when you consider who these two characters use to be at the time the sex tape was made. on the other hand, it was clearly put into the show to make fans turn against brooke and support lucas/peyton. essentially they're saying...see, peyton dating her best friends ex isn't so bad now because her best friend had sex with her's. now peyton no longer looks like the boyfriend stealing thief because brooke did something worse.

cil

not to me but to some people...they think so. primarily because brooke/nathan had sex (and filmed it). and it happened when nathan was treating peyton like garbage and consistently hurting her. lucas and peyton haven't even slept together yet and they're actually in a relationship.

Mariella Nilsson

Haley slapped her for what happened now, being fired, that was what triggered her anger now, but in that slap was also ofcource that rachel tried to steal nathan and that was also pretty recent.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the series and I loved your reaction to the sex tape. So much so that I had to print screen it and show it to my best friend. 😆 I skimmed the comments and couldn't find anything about your query about Rachel and Tree Hill High. Seasons one and two are junior years, while seasons three and four are senior years. Rachel arrived at the beginning of Season 3, so she spent her senior year of high school at Tree Hill. She had previously been expelled from four other high schools. The Mouth/Shelley thing was awful to watch for a variety of reasons, but I really felt for her. Mouth definitely manipulated her in that situation, whether he intended to or not, and it hurts to realize that as an adult. It was basically just a lot of teen emotions on overdrive but it felt real to me. People have panned the Brooke/Nathan SL, but I adore it. It makes perfect sense. This would have happened as a result of how they were when the show began. I also know that some people believe it was thrown in to make Brooke look bad and Peyton look better, but I never felt that way. However, it is possible. I don't think it makes them look anything other than human youths who have done some bad things. Fans, I believe, enjoy causing drama (ya know, making "teams" and all 🙄 ). Have I said I love this season enough? Seriously, this and season 5 are my favorites. It's just so much drama and fun.

J

I just wanted to say its cool season 5 is one of your favorite seasons! Most people don't like it so its cool to see someone else who enjoys it

I Am Not Chamari

I don’t really have anything to say about the slap or about Mouth/Shelley since everyone has basically already communicated my thoughts. About the Brooke/Nathan sex tape… I get people feel like it came out of nowhere, but that’s kind of how new plot developments work haha. It makes PERFECT sense for who they were as characters. And it allows us to see two very different betrayals and let the audience decide how to feel about it. I never felt it was trying to justify what Peyton/Lucas did, but bring Brooke down from her pedestal of being morally superior and territorial and just downright mean. And the fact that she kept this from Peyton is super hypocritical. But, we’ll see what happens with that

AllieDoh

I love season 5 too. I actually really prefer the mature seasons of the show vs. the HS seasons!
