I think I'm the only person who kinda understands Rachel's POV lol. Also after Santana said all of those things to her, I 100% get slapping her. She was provoking her if you ask me 🤷‍♀️

No I agree. Like Rachel can be annoying sometimes but Santana was for real here biggest bully in high school, so you kind of have to carry the traumas and lack of trust with you, even if you are friends. And like Santana was provoking her for sure

rachel has always been annoying and can be quite on the wrong side of bossy but in spite of these things, throughout high school, she had a hard time really standing up for herself in regards to the bullying. she'd just kind of take it, and accept that something bigger would be waiting for her in the future. if she finally stood up for herself, then i'm glad for her growth as a character in that regard.

I couldn't stand Rachel this episode. Rachel was always going to need an understudy so why wouldn't you want it to be your friend rather than some actress you don't know know possibly wanting to steal your job also Santana could cover for Rachel if Rachel has better opportunities that come her way while other understudies could/would likely try to steal her job. Even though Santana has the waitress job it is clear she wanted a better job and being an understudy could lead to better opportunities just by word of mouth. Yes Santana was a bully to Rachel in Seasons 1 and 2 but we've seen Santana and Rachel's friendship change from Season 3 to now. In reality we have slowly seen Rachel and Santana become good friends. Santana had been one of the few that supported Rachel wanting to get married to Finn, helped rig the prom results with Quinn so Rachel won Prom Queen, could tell Brody wasn't telling Rachel the truth, was there for Rachel during a pregnancy scare, got Rachel the waitress job, etc. Yes Santana could've told Rachel she was auditioning for the understudy role but Rachel genuinely acted like Santana auditioned for the lead and that Santana became her co-lead. In reality Santana auditioned for the understudy role and it is possible Santana wouldn't perform beyond rehearsals, occasionally for matinees, or in the chance Rachel was sick.

Also Santana actually getting the understudy part is even more unbelievable than Rachel getting the lead, it makes me laugh sometimes. Like she looks nothing like the role, so this is the writers really asking us to suspend our disbelief for the storyline. You talked about how annoying it is for Rachel to get everything she wants, but I'll just say that there's a lot of episodes left. From here on out, I think the show is pretty much over the super rough patch of episodes and the rest of it is really enjoyable even if you can't stand some of the characters sometimes lol.

I actually enjoyed season 5 Rachel. She was a good friend to Santana, and despite it being so unbelievable that everything would go her way all the time, she wasn't as annoying this season. For her to forgive Santana, her biggest bully from season 1 to 3, allow her to move in, become a close friend to her. It's a big thing. To then have her go behind her back and audition for her understudy... I'd be pissed to, ngl. As petty as it is, I would be so annoyed because this is a girl who (even in this episode when they're supposed to be friends) consistently undermined Rachel's looks, talent, work ethic, and her dream of being on Broadway, but now she wants to be on Broadway herself (out of nowhere.) And in a role that would be zero stage time without something being wrong with Rachel... Funny girl isn't just a role to her either. She's literally been obsessed with Barbara and the role of Fanny Brice since the first season. Imagine someone who told you that you would never make it and that you were ugly/short/annoying, your dream was dumb, and everything else Santana has said to Rachel, showing up at your dream job and getting a job there too. A job they can't do unless you *can't* physically do yours... Especially someone who hasn't worked nearly as hard as you have for the role. Rachel (despite being annoying) has put the work in for her dream, and Santana barely showed any interest in acting or doing stage productions. Don't forget, they were enemies a lot longer than they've been friends, so of course Rachel doesn't trust her. She was genuinely AWFUL to her throughout her formative years. That shit stays with you. I think after everything, Santana kinda had it coming.

I Am Not Chamari

I am hesitantly on Rachel's side with this one. I at least can see where she's coming from: Santana is a person who has consistently shown her disdain for Broadway and showtunes and everything Rachel loves and respects. It's clear that Rachel has deep seated insecurities and needs to have something on her own to feel secure in her talent. And quite frankly, she's worked very hard to make it to this stage of her career. On top of all of that, this is her dream role, a role that her idol originated. And then Santana can just waltz into her "arena", copy a previous performance of Rachel's and get immediate praise... Or at least, that's how Rachel sees it. Rachel is a classic gatekeeper, which is obviously not a good thing, but it also is driven by needing to be seen as excellent in one field. And I genuinely don't think that Santana should have blindsided her at the audition. Like if she knew Rachel was going to be upset, surely this was worth a conversation beforehand? Sure, Rachel took it to the next level, but she was experiencing extreme emotion and betrayal.

2022-12-31 07:00:06 I'm going to keep my opinion short. I see both sides and where they are coming from. In one hand, Santana only wins if Rachel loses and she knew it would upset rachel because she even said she didn't tell her so they could go at it afterwards not before. She had the chance of a lifetime and a good job so it's obviously an oppurtunity you're going to take. But Santana never wanted a Broadway job or has been interested in that type of stuff so it just seems petty to do that to Rachel. As much as season 5 rachel will be the worst version you will see of her, she worked very hard to get where she is now and I do see where both of them are coming from, so I'll remain neutral

I love how you can predict Santana's lines XD XD XD Santana is the best antagonist Rachel could have. For whatever reason, I never felt she had a real threat in Quinn, or Mercedes or whoever was supposed to be her nemesis but Santana gives a run for her money and you can fell it and even root for Santana. That makes for a good show. Too bad it was just a reflection of the behind the scenes world and therefore wasn't gonna last. Santana is at this point the best character in Glee.
