I was surprised you didn't know her original story! Obviously Disney loves to twist storylines to be cutesy but there actually was speculation for a LONG time that Anastasia was alive because they couldn't find her remains in the burial location where her family was. The conspiracy lasted a long time and several women over time claimed to be her, but they did end up proving the entire family was deceased with DNA testing much later on. Very interesting.

Oh! I also want to add just for my own bit of bragging (I don't get to do that often) I saw an exhibit at the museum of the family's belongings and there was a letter written in her handwrittng and signed with her signature and it was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a museum. I still get goosebumps thinking about that. All the treasures and sparklies and all my eleven year old self wanted to stand and stare at was her handwriting
