At the beginning Edward was really just looking for directions. He is used to people doing what he wants so when he says she can't charge for directions and a hooker of all people talks back he is intrigued and the car ride makes him even more so. In the bathroom he says not very many people surprise him. Yes, he was lonely but I don't think he would have asked anyone in.

I completely forgot how similar they made The Princess Diaries to this movie. So many of the same actors, lines, and similar scenes. I love that!

AllieDoh

Those cuts are definitely weird. The movie just goes from one scene to the other usually without the black screen in between.

I just love this movie. 14 year old me was in love with Richard Gere in this movie, and 26 year old me is... still in love with Richard Gere lmao.

in the original script, kit died of an overdose and vivian didn't end up with edward. as i understand it, garry marshall thought that was too dark and the movie would sell better as a fairy tale. which . . . like you, i'm surprised the viewer ratings are so low because the movie was super popular when it came out and a lot of the people who liked it then still do. and, like romy and michelle, it makes me so happy when they finally let her shop!

I watched it when I was much younger than 14. I think I saw it for the first time when I was like 10 lol (on TV though so it was censored)

yeah i remember it running all the time on tv when i was a kid. i also remember being like six and my cousins who were just a bit older than me having it in their Vhs collection lol

AllieDoh

Lmao, probably. But I watched Dirty Dancing and Goodfellas when I was six, Buffy from the age of five, Cruel intentions was my favorite movie as a kid, and I've been obsessed with Law and Order/SVU since I was like eight lmao. My parents never censored my tv and I'm actually thankful because a lot of the movies I appreciate now have that nostalgia, and I ended up being super into media and became a romance/fantasy author, but I also have a pretty realistic world view. Besides, my cousin showed me Queen Of The Damned when I was super young so I don't think anything shocked me after that lol.

@ allie, i've just come to accept that the 90s were a lawless time when it came to stuff like that lmao

also to add: i saw an article about dark themes on full house and read it for fun and oh my goodness! that show dealt with abuse, trauma, death, smoking, drinking, dangerous behaviors, sex, heartache, etc. i was watching that with my popcorn and grape juice devouring every episode at the age of like six lol i'm not one to fuss and yell about "pc culture" whatever THAT is but it is jarring to think that topics like these are only really covered in super dark shows like euphoria or something. there's not "safe" shows that touch on these topics like full house or even seventh heaven would back in the day. i definitely think we probably got exposed to certain things too young but i think we turned out okay lol

Just Lily

you should definitely see Erin Brockovich!

Pretty Woman did for Julia Roberts what Speed did for Sandra Bullock.
