Mae Whitman (from The Duff) is in this as a cameo because she is Lauren Graham's daughter in Parenthood. There are a few cameos like this in here. The actor who plays her brother on Parenthood (and was her boyfriend for many years in real life), Peter Krause, appears in another episode of AYITL, as well as Jason Ritter, also from Parenthood. There are also several cameos from Amy Sherman Palladino's other show Bunheads, which starred Kelly Bishop (Emily). Despite the cameos and great Liza Weil moments (I adore Paris), nothing about this "series" is particularly enjoyable. We were ecstatic about this show. And this is what was given to us. What were Amy and Dan thinking when they treated us and their own characters like this?! I'm still furious about it. It didn't help that, aside from Buffy, Gilmore Girls is my favorite show, so it was especially painful. It's my go-to show. And I have to forget about this "part" when I re-watch it or else I get irritated again.

"...I don't hate it, I'm just very confused...", - Steven Give it time, Steven, you're only halfway there. The worst is yet to come.

bahahaha so true! ;) I think the summer episode was the worst - at least for me.

ok so here's my thing: it could've been a great story to have the "always gets what she wants"-Rory not thrive professionally as she expected, but they made her look like a straight-up brat. First, she yells at the book lady from London (granted, she deserved that and this book idea was going nowhere), then she finally got the interview and chance she wanted and she fell asleep during an interview and gives up after one day bc she hadn't found anything interesting yet and then to top it all off she goes to a job interview she thought was below her and came entirely unprepared and then was mad she didn't get the job even though that CEO was right not to hire someone without any ideas or preparation, even if they tried to get her for a year. they ruined Rory as a character here. she sleeps around with three different guys - which would be fine if she were open and honest, but she keeps forgetting Paul is even her boyfriend, she is okay with just being her ex-fiancés side piece in London (when she clearly wants more) and she just slept with some random dude who boosted her ego. this is really out of character.

This is just my own thoughts because nothing indicates otherwise, but I think if Rory weren't the brat the are portraying her to be she could be with Logan. I think they both want to be together but Logan is never going to put himself out there again with Rory, so he takes what he can get, and (this version of) Rory is never going to humble herself to say she wants more. It more enticing for her to be a "worldly person" living it up, it makes no sense. Rory by no means was my favourite character in the show but the way they just trashed her character is depressing.

I agree, that episode is just woof. And the references which before were cute/fun are now just so topical and dated. Crazy fever dream aside the Fall episode is my favourite.

thisismaria27

My thoughts exactly. Logan wanted to marry her for crying out loud and she rejected him for her career. So he is definitely not going to be the one to make the first step here. And Rory is waaaay too entitled in this revival to even notice he might want more. Rory was never my fave either but this revival makes her look so insanely unlikeable. So many people use her as an example for "entitled millenial" and I can't even blame them. Rory makes all smart book-worms look like brats.

thisismaria27

For most fans the revival was a big disappointment bc as you said we waited over a decade for this and then they went and turned it into this uninspired nothing. All character growth ignored, no real direction of story and the episodes are so long and none of the humorous stuff hits either. The charm of gilmore girls is just not there.

Sofie

For sure! For years people were arguing over which #Team they were on. Before the reboot people were being all cute and saying, no I’m team Rory, all the guys are trash. It should actually have been team NOT Rory because she’s the worst. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

thisismaria27

yes the fall episode is definitely the best one. I still try to blend out the revival and remember only the “real” gilmore girls :)

Stephanie Bedworth

As usual, Kirk's short film stole the whole episode.

Omg! i remember watching this for the first time and being so excited to see anything Stars Hallow related, something new after all those years, and i loved it! watching it now is SO boring to me, like what? oh its so bad, NOOOO! =(

Stacey

The best part of this whole revival has to be the second film by Kirk 🤣🤣

Other Boy Reactions

Yeah not great. I think the Palladinos wanted to show how aimless and unfocused Rory’s generation is. Or at least that’s how the Palladinos see them/us. Definitely some truth to it but it wasn’t executed well at all. Or maybe it hits too close to home and feels to realistic when we want a little bit of escapism from our Gilmore Girls and that’s why it’s not funny. I haven’t decided yet. The lines bit was kinda funny because it’s pretty true especially in big cities. Also the Palladinos clearly had free reign in these movies which was a mistake. They definitely are at their best when they have restrictions and commercial breaks because it forces them to EDIT.

Amy and Dan basically kept the same script they were going to use years ago, with some minor tweaks. It doesn’t make since in today’s world, at this point in their lives Lorelai should have already been married and they both wanted kids but it seems like they’re just in limbo her/neither of those things determine a healthy or happy relationship but it was something they had both wanted and talked about before life got in the way and they mishandled things. Logan had made a lot of process , wanting to try and step out on his own without his father’s influence. But all of that got retracted/even the jokes seem dated.
