ok, the Nelly Yuki thing: Blair was always dreaming about Yale college and working towards it. Nelly Yuki is also applying to Yale, and she super overachiever in everything. At the start of an episode, Blair tells Serena, that Yale only accepts 1 person from Constance(their school) every year, so if Nelly gets accepted, then Blair doesn't. that was the whole point of bringing down Nelly's grades etc.

It is kinda hard to see Michelle Trachtenberg in a villainous role after Dawn at first but give it a little time. Georgina is an interesting troublemaker character that you kinda love to hate.)

Haha, I am living for the "Jenny is the worst" commentary, it's very satisfying, there's just nothing likeable about her. At least other bad people in this show do it in a way that's entertaining, Jenny just annoys me. Been a while since I've watched the series, so maybe I don't remember some of the stuff about characters, but so far I agree. Nate is a good person, while Jenny is gross. They're both teenagers, Nate cheated when he was Jennys age too, so don't know why she gets a pass for being young and stupid and Nate doesn't. I know he confessed feelings for Serena again recently, which was wrong while being with Blair, but lets not forget his parents practically forced him to stay together with her when he wanted to break up. Bad things Nate did were inconsiderate and stupid, but he never deliberately tried to hurt anyone. While Jenny and so many characters in this show are malicious and shallow, they do evil things for fun, they want to harm someone for their personal gain. All characters here are young and make stupid mistakes, but to me there's a difference between a calculated manipulative move, and making a mistake because you're in over your head, or lost in the moment. Nate also had great moments where was genuinely good or stepped up, can't say the same for many others. I'm glad you never let the comments sway you Steve, your opinions remain honest and you don't fake the reaction.

I think when people watch GG people tend to forget about who is good when talking about favourite characters and more who they love, love to hate or just find entertaining. That's why Blair and Chuck top many lists. It's not really a show we people support the "good people." ;) Jenny always sucks IMO and Nate, there is nothing wrong with Nate, he is just bland AF compared to everyone else. For me I am not sure if it is the writers fault, the actors fault for not giving him more nuance or a bit of both.

All true. People definitely pick favorites on this show based on how much fun they were to watch, and not for moral reasons. But then they hate Nate because he did something morally wrong? :D I don't think he ever pretended to be a nice guy, he's just lost and figuring himself out like the rest. Guess if he was more entertaining, asshole or badass, people would be more forgiving of his wrongdoings. xD It's fine if some fans love and pick bad people as their favorites, but then if same fan expresses hate once someone else did a bad thing....? Like really? Your favorite did a lot worse things on the regular xD

Sofie

Totally agree with what you said. Nate and Dan are two characters that get more hate when they mess up than others. Dan is more understandable because while a "good guy" is very judgey and gets on his high horse a lot. But that is not the case with Nate like you said is figuring things out.

Honestly, my main issue with Nate is how he handled the Chuck/Blair situation. Like, he cheated on Blair with her best friend and then stayed with her the entire year S was in boarding school, but rejected her constantly. Yet he refused to break up and let her move on from him. And this was before his dad's addiction and his deal Blair's mom, so that entire year he had no excuse. Though since it was before the show's start, we can forgive... Except he got worse. He treated Blair as a placeholder until Serena came back, and kept her dangling while actively chasing Serena MULTIPLE times, which is a form of cheating again imo. Then he kissed Jenny at the Masquerade party, cheating on Blair AGAIN, while thinking she was Serena. Finally, they break up, and he then calls Blair (in his defence, it's on his father's orders) and gives her false hope on her birthday, only to spend the entire night with Jenny of all people?! Then when Blair moves on and shows a glimmer of disinterest in him, he wants her again... So all of that is bad enough, but then, after all he's done to Blair, he still treats her like dirt when he finds out about Chuck, going as far to end things and leaving the girl WHO FORGAVE HIM TWICE to face social consequences HE didn't have to face when the tables were turned for the EXACT same situation with one crucial difference: Blair waited until she and Nate were broken up to sleep with the best friend. And yet, he acted like she was FAR worse than he was for sleeping with Chuck, standing by while she got ice cream etc. dumped on her. It's a double standard, and he acts so vindicated in the way he handled it when he has no right really... It wouldn't be half as bad if he was a bit like Chuck who knows he's a degenerate. But Nate likes to keep this squeaky clean, "nice guy" image. For this reason, he just irks me. Idk, maybe it's just me lol.

The difference between forgiving Serena and forgiving Nate is that Serena felt guilty. She wanted to make up for her mistakes. Nate didn't give 2 craps. He wanted to cheat again. Kept Blair around because Serena didn't want him. Would have dropped her like a hot potato if Serena had just said the word. He wasn't really sorry at all for doing what he did. He was shitty as hell to Blair and even if you don't like her, no one deserves to be used like that.

No, you're right. All of these reasons is why, up to this point cuz I really don't remember this show, Nate is just irredeemable to me. That holier than thou attitude isn't cutting it especially when he's done so much worse to Blair. I don't think Blair did ANYTHING wrong sleeping with someone else after the breakup. The fact that it's Chuck is ew but she has the right to do whatever with whomever she wanted to. Nate, on the other hand, is a piece of rat turd. He didn't even bother checking on Blair and was still nice to freaking JENNY of all people after the ice cream thing?? Man, heads would roll if it had been me.

I actually love Nate - actually my favorite out of the guy characters-and didn’t realize he wasn’t a popular character until now.
