I mean Tripp did recognize Stefan’s name which is why he said “one of the founding families” when Stefan said they had something in common. And finally, Kai! He’s awesome.

That was the time I really disliked Stefan. I get that trying to move away from all of his friends is his coping mechanism with Damon's death, but honestly Caroline truly doesn't deserve to be treated like this.

My boy kai lmaoo. Chris wood killed it. Very well cast for this role and hoestly kept me engaged and enthralled anytime he was on screen this season.

Yeah, this episode was building towards a lot of things. I hate Kai, but boy, is he a great character. I think it was necessary for the story of this season not to reveal too much about him in this episode. I think just enough was done to make the audience want to find out more. And they introduced Liam in the first episode of the season. They volunteer at the hospital together.
