Yes, missy is the master from season 3 and 4. I believe this was the first time in the series they confirmed that you could change genders from regeneration.

Hemdian

Matt Smith's Doctor mentioned, in an easy-to-dismiss throw-away line, that regeneration can change your sex. So, yes: Missy is the Master. Also, Clara saw the Cybermen in the Matt Smith episode with the abandoned space park.

Siti Dee

You're not crazy! Missy IS the Master! (And my fav). The old guy you were thinking about is "Professor YANA" in s3e11. He died and regenerated into John Simm's master!

Chelsea

This is one of my favorite 12th doctor episodes, the whole “Do you think I care for you so little, that you betraying me would ever make a difference!” Is s beloved line! YES Missy is the MASTER from the 10th doctor era him and the professor or the same person.

It is really messed up that they had Danny meet the kid he killed. They purposely want the afterlife experience to be horrible because the assistant then gave Danny the opportunity to delete his emotions, and they want Danny is so much pain that he thinks about doing that. I wondered why they didn’t just delete his emotions for him, but maybe it’s an easier process if it’s his choice. They have kinda implied in previous cybermen episodes that hanging on to strong positive emotions can disrupt conversion. I really enjoyed this episode, it was great to see what all the clues Missy had been building towards 😄

We were first introduced to the Master when he was an old looking guy during David Tennant's era. He didnt have his memories and he got em back and regenerated to the guy you pointed out, who was posing as a Prime Minister and then culminated with him making everyone on the planet look like him and Gallifrey merging into Earth storyline and Tennant regenrating. Last we saw him he said the epic line "Get out of the way" to Tennant and screamed "YOU DID THIS TO ME!" while blasting Timothy Dalton with lightning 😄. So he went into the portal back into the Time War. Apparetnly he found a way out and regenrated since then into Missy. Matt Smith mentioned that in a throw away line that he had a Time Lord buddy that became a Lady or vice versa and another Time Lord who every time he regenerated always had a tattoo of a snake eating its own tail, the Ouroboros.

🤣 Stupid thumbnails! But they even have a spoilery pic on the BBC's iplayer. But then the BBC has always thrown away many surprises with "next time" the episode titles and promotional adds before a new series begins. Now we will never know if you would have gotten it from the dark water clue or when those doors closed. What timing in telling Danny to watch where he was going when crossing the.... 😟 Glad you really appreciated how f'd up and truly dark the concept is.

Great reaction, I remember watching this episode when it aired and was completely shocked by The Missy/Master reveal, as far as I can remember they kept that casting completely secret so it was a real reveal, , other casting like new Doctors and new Companions are revealed months before they are ever in the show, also I love the way Clara handled Danny’s death and tried to blackmail the Doctor to bring him back, it shows how human she is and it’s a very real reaction to a death in a world where you know a time traveler

Siti Dee

I agree! Clara gets so much hate with how she handled her grief. And fans kept comparing her with other past companions and saying annoying stuff like "Rose would neverrrrr" which is 🙄. I get why Clara did what she did, and I also think I would go on a spiral too. She is human after all. And I'm so glad that Steven is one of the few reactors who loved the writing on Clara's grief.

The assistant in the underworld has already been integrated, he had scared and traumatized Danny so that he would accept deleting all his emotions, something that would hold him back from being properly 'upgraded' and under cyberman control. This seems to be a running theme with the cybermen, where very few things can allow you to gain control of yourself or keep control of yourself after being upgraded. Doctor Chang did not know anything more than the issue of your mind and body being connected after death. This episode, to me, was perfect. When watching this for the first time the reveal for both the cybermen and the Master/Missy ordeal was such a surprise. I am sorry it got ruined for you! At least some of it was a shock. It tied in to why we'd been seeing this woman every time someone died, shocked us with the very unexpected death of Danny. Clara's subsequent attempt at betrayal and the Doctor's love for his companion was far greater than expected. Clara's reaction was not over the top or unjustified. Did she betray the doctor? Yeah, but that is such a human emotion and while it was upsetting to see her stoop to that level, I can't say that I wouldn't go to lengths if I had the means to do so, while feeling so strongly about the situation. It was a ten for me.

This is as dark as Doctor Who has ever got and there were hundreds of complaints to the in-house consumer programme "Points Of View" that it went to far and had to defend the episode's content themes for younger viewers. One thing to note is that due to Dancing With The Stars (A remake our original "Strictly Come Dancing" as we call it) this episode aired after "Strictly" at around 20:45-21:00 close to the watershed at 21:00. I've always wondered if Moffat knew well in advance if Doctor Who would air so late in the schedule and wrote the episode a little darker. This all resulted in some of the latest Doctor Who scheduling we have ever had. Dancing with the stars is a ratings winner and The BBC favour it over Who always. It's a simple choice, Doctor Who in Spring or Autumn on Saturdays but in Autumn/Fall You will clash with Strictly. In the future a new showrunner moves Doctor Who to Sunday's but that has not appeased many.
