I think you missunderstood the part when they said that the original intersect which was developed 30 years ago was about a cover identity, not about cia information, since you were confused about the flashes etc. So Chuck's dad put a cover identity in his head to go undercover but the guy couldnt come back from it and he became that cover identity which we know as Volkoff and thats why Chuck's dad and mom both worked on it for years trying to fix him because that was originally their friend. Also you were saying that he must have been younger when he got intersect in his brain and you were surprised at the picture they showed. Since Volkoff is 50+ and the OG interesect was put into him in 1980. so 30 years ago, we can assume he was 20 something years old and they were obviously all in spy business at that time since they were creating a cover identity and going into undercover missions.

Volkoff is a intersect. Remember the intersect kept updating with new abilities. Chuck originally didn't have fighting skills. When Volkoff went undercover, the idea for the intersect was used to implant an identity into an agent. It was the technology behind intersect, not the intersect as we know it.

I absolutely LOVE this episode. And it really does make perfect sense that Volkoff is the intersect. The two comments above me explain that too. Volkoff wouldn't have any of the flashes Chuck has because that intersect was created 30 years ago. The intersect 2.0 (the one Chuck has) only got into his brain at the end of season 2, so it would make no sense if Volkoff had extra abilities. The intersect that Orion put into Hartley in 1980 was just meant to create an undercover identity, but it corrupted his brain and he became Volkoff entirely. It's incredibly dark, actually. This episode feels like 2 20 minute episodes in one. The first part is like an 8, but the second part like a 10 to me.
