I know some prefer the sub to dub on this one. I've watched both but I personally like the dub on Haikyuu. I like the voice actors and I think it makes it easier to follow because it is a dialogue heavy show with a lot of info about the volleyball strategies so it's just easier to absorb in English I would think especially for someone newer to Anime like you. I also think it helps for reactions because you are able to just hear it instead of reading the whole time and you can more closely watch the visuals of them playing the game. Keep up the good work man glad to see you are starting to enjoy some Anime.

I love this series but I do wish this was reaction was to the subbed version. At the risk of angering the dub lovers I will now attempt to make a case for watching with subs: I know some people are intimidated by the speed of subtitles but one adapts more quickly than you think. The main issue I have with dubs is that it's not the authentic show. The show is Japanese and the characters's lines are written in Japanese. These voice actors were chosen and directed with care to convey the creator's vision. When a dub is applied to the show a good amount of that is lost. There are nuances to language that convey a great deal about a character. For example Tanaka is a rough and tough guy but when it comes to third years he's always respectful. But in the dub he comes across as disrespectful and borderline rude to Suga. There can also lines which sound great in Japanese and are sadly just cringeworthy when dubbed in English. Hinata’s voice in the english dub is very different than the Japanese portrayal. In terms of the reasoning of reaction time, many reactor’s on youtube simply pause the show to give their thoughts. No one watching your reactions should be watching the show for the first time. Lastly I think when you watch things subbed you get the opportunity to learn about another country’s culture. I’ve watched a lot of shows (not just anime) from different countries with subs. Every time it’s strange at first to hear the different sounds but then I start to learn so much about the culture, just from listening to language. If there’s a saying or idiom that’s used that I don’t get, I google it and find out more about about world. So while I understand that people may find the dub more approachable, I urge people to give subs a try, you may learn a lot. Anyway that’s my case, Haikyuu is awesome show and I think you’ll really enjoy it.

His Name is Shoyo Hinata. Hinata is his last name. In Japan and in Anime especially ones set in Japan like the high school ones more than the other world fantasies you will hear them call people by their last name, You would have to look it up to get the full history of it but from what I know it's kinda of a familiarity thing. So when they first get to know you or are strangers they call you by your last name but you will see as the friends get closer or if their is a best friend or a girl that is a childhood friend they call the character by their first name or when a guy and girl get closer and date or are closer friends they sometimes say they can use their first name or they seem to just naturally start doing it. But that is why you will here alot of people call each other by their last names in Anime. Also there are terms or honorifics at the end of names they use sometimes to indicate respect or closeness like Sensei for teacher or master. Senpai for an older class mate, and then stuff like san, chan, that they use for like older or younger brother or sister etc etc etc. Again you would need to look all them up or just as you are watching and following along you'll pick it up. (If anybody can explain more or if I got anything wrong please elaborate for me, thank you.)
