That ending.... bone chilling! So excited to get into Season 4 now :D

Fly on the Wall

I was jonesing for this reaction! Hitting play immediately.

Fly on the Wall

She didn't turn Elena. Stefan didn't agree to turn her. She was given the blood when she passed out at the very beginning of the episode. She was given the blood to be healed, not turned. By the time she drowned and came to the hospital, she was already dead and vampire blood would be useless.

Stefan Davis

As season finales go it’s not the best but it’s definitely not the worst..... but the first few episodes of season 4 is a freaking mess idc the writing is not good at all.... Now the Elena thing Stefan did not give her the blood the doctor did she gave it to her after she passed out and was bleeding from the nose etc...... her plan was just to heal her so she wouldn’t die unfortunately she did not expect her to die from the bridge but she did and the Vampire blood was still in her system thus Elana is now a vampire.....also I’m sure she had spare vampire blood around for emergency purposes I wouldn’t put it past her

Keep it a buck guys that scene where elena and stefan are arguing under water was hella stupid in hindsight. The first time I watched it I was swept by the moment, it being my first time watching it, I was more in the continous back and forth from flash back to current time scenes and damons flash back. But watching it again here where stefan tries to save her and she shakes her head no, then he tries again and she does an even more forceful shake of the symbolizing NO!! and then the 5 sec stare down by eachother. Bro wtf you're under water that shit was sooo fucking weird tbh. Steven I hope there's a double upload meaning the beginning of next season along side the originals

john segun doe

Bruh how did he miss that whole scene where the doctor said she had a brain hemorrhage and she "helped" elena smh, damn man. That was supposed to be the whole reveal lol, I was really surprised at the end of his post ep review when he thought stefan fed her his blood

Klaus is in Tyler's body but You are right assuming Tyler could still be somewhere..possible. No one died because Klaus did not die..Bonnie stopped that with body switch. Alaric is gone and it breaks my heart. Will Jeremy be able to talk with him as ghost? Hmmm you will have to see if that ever happens... I would say in Season 4 about midway you will see an episode of TV D called The Originals..after that sits I would start watching the Originals

Corey

Meredith gave her the blood before Ric destroyed them. Remember in the last episode when she hit her head on the step. It caused a hemorrhage. Meredith told Damon at the end that she was lying when she said the injuries weren't that bad when Jeremy brought her in and she gave her the blood then.

kyra bah

At the beginning of the episode when Jeremy took elena to the hospital. Meredith was there and explaining to Jeremy that elena was fine. It was before that. So that was before Alaric destroyed the blood stash.

GeekedOutNation

So she got blood at the beginning of the episode because of what happened at the end of the last episode? So I missed the part where she said Jeremy brought her in earlier. So What she told Jeremy was a lie. Her injuries were terrible and she had a cerebral hemorrhage which essentially means she was bleeding in her brain. That was on me for missing that. I thought they were talking about that she got that stuff from the drowning. I think the drowning thing was poorly done that I was still thinking about it.

Fly on the Wall

I'll also try to explain the importance of the flashbacks for me. I feel they were supposed to parallel Elena's current situation with how she was the day she met the brothers. She didn't want to let Matt go because she feared losing him like she feared losing a brother. Her telling Damon that maybe if she met him first and we find out she DID meet him first. And finally how fate brought her into that water twice and while her dad sacrificed his life for her the first time, she refused to let it happen again and she this time sacrificed herself to save her friend. It was a full circle thing. I respect your reaction to not like it, but I really loved the symbolism, personally. It was also a callback to Damon's that's the eternal difference between us, brother.

Stefan Davis

Lmaoo man I always say this watching this show again many years later you really start to see flaws in a show an that bridge scene was terribly executed

james cedro

I remember yelling at my screen just unbuckle her seatbelt Stefan!!!! Lol I wouldn’t say the scene was badly done though it was actually a beautiful and poetic scene if not entirely realistic. I think this episode was a 10 though and your reaction completely different from mine!

Terri

Yeah, so her dying underwater was kind of stupid in reality. I understand why the did it. It was beautiful symbolism. She was supposed to die in the water the first time when her parents did, but she didn't when Stefan intervened. She lived out the moment in this episode when she did die. Also remember that Elena always felt guilty that she lived and her parents died. She wasn't going to let that happen again. That is why she was arguing with Stefan to get Matt instead. However, EVERYONE thought it was stupid even when it aired. Stefan ripped that door off the truck. He could have easily ripped both of their seatbelts off and grabbed both of them at the same time and carried them up. You said why not just rip Elena's seatbelt, but remember Elena died seconds after he grabbed Matt. She probably wouldn't have made it to the surface. It takes some energy (and O2 expenditure) and time to swim upward and Elena was out of oxygen. I don't think she could have surfaced on her own. However, Stefan could have easily grabbed both. This was sort of like that scene in Titanic with Rose and Jack that everyone wonders to this day why they couldn't take turns on the door or both fit on the door. It's true that realistically it probably could have worked out that way. However, they did it for the drama. TVD wanted a similar dramatic moment and they also wanted to turn Elena. This marks the end of Kevin Williamson's (the creator) time on TVD. He comes back later for a bit, but this was his main run with the show. They had agreed that Elena would turn and it was always a debate about when. They chose this time and they wanted to make her death symbolic and dramatic. Honestly, I just ignore the fact that Stefan could have saved them both and just enjoy it for what it is. It's the same way I ignore that Rose and Jack could have found a way to both get on the door in Titanic. Sometimes you have to overlook those things. I agree that Alaric's death wasn't nearly as powerful the second time. I HATED what the did with him too when I was first watching it. I have to say...on rewatches it isn't as bad. I loved that everyone knew Elena was dead when they saw Ric. The flashbacks are meant to make you really see the parallels in Elena's death scene. They also let you see Elena's life before and the differences, which I think was fun for the audience. The most important takeaway though was understanding that Damon actually did meet Elena first. So Elena had told him that maybe if she had meant him first things would be different...that she would have chosen him over Stefan. So the audience is let in on the fact that Damon actually did meet her first, but he doesn't use that information to try to persuade her. It also makes sense how Damon kind of falls for her from the beginning with this scene. Remember how he was season 1 at the beginning when he was kind of flirting with her. It puts some of that into a different context. We also can't go into details about Tyler. He could be dead because obviously Klaus's body is torched. However, remember that Ric was still alive even after Klaus was in his body. We never knew if the witch actually moved Ric into Klaus's body or if they were both in Ric's body. We do know that when Klaus was moved back into his own body that Ric was just fine. So it depends on if it was a body swap or if the person just inhabits the other's body with the original person still in there. We never really got that answer with Rebecca and her mother either. So...the answer is coming up and I can't tell you whether he is dead or alive.

Tendai kangas

klaus never actually died

thisismaria27

fyi how the whole blood that turned Elena thing happened: when Jeremy brought Elena to the hospital in the beginning of the episode her condition was worse than Meredith told Jeremy. And we know that Meredith stashed vampire blood to give to patients who need it to survive. Same she did for Elena (so whose blood she actually used, we don't know at this point). This means that she had vampire blood in her system all day. And when Rebekah drove her and Matt off the bridge and she drowned, she died with vampire blood already in her system. Which is why she woke up as a vampire.

Libby

Lol I see 20 other comments cleared up the blood thing. So about Ric's death... Ric didn't get two deaths. Ric died in episode 20. This was no longer him. That's why they gave him the good death was they knew they had to kill him off (Matt Davis was got his own show) this way and felt the character deserved a better send off than just going evil and dying as Elena drowns.

Libby

Just in case you rewatch this here are a couple things you didn't seem to remember that make the episode less dumb: Evilaric can't come in Elena's house he's a vampire. He was never invited in as a vampire and the show established with Vikki and Logan that being previously invited in or lived there before doesn't count. When Mama Witch made Alaric she made him hyperfocused on hunting the Originals. She made it so he wouldn't hunt humans like they did. So Matt,Jeremy, the Council etc weren't in danger. He never went after humans other than in normal human ways. Our non original vampire friends were in no real danger from Evilaric either cause as we and he know they will protect Elena and therefore indirectly Evilaric. It's why he didn't kill them last episode. They gave us every hint on Earth that they gave her vamp blood. First we should have known how serious the injury was. In 3x19 Kol smashes her head on a mantle. She is painting. She hits her head again at Klaus's. He also drained her of most of her blood. Then she drinks alcohol. Then she passes out in paint fumes again lol. So when she got home from the hospital we should have known when she said she felt just fine and was up walking and doing stuff we should have known Meredith gave her vampire blood.

I like Matt and I get why Jermey and Matt did what they did

Libby

Sorry at work my comment typing was interrupted... Anyway the underwater scene. *Sigh* There is built in vampire lore that would have explained Stefan only being able to get one of them. In lots of vampire mythology vampires are weakened by running water. Hell Matt could have vervained Stefan to get Elena out... Stefan could have been recently bled out.. it would have been so easy to explain it so it's infuriating that they didn't bother and went the no sense way of Stefan can rip a truck door off but not grab an extra 100lb girl. Someone else said it Elena wasn't making it out by swimming she had no air left. Which is realistic she'd been down there for nearly two minutes.

Enjoying your TVD reactions! I can't wait for you to get to The Originals now, lol 😁

Pho3nixX

The Originals have a sort of pilot episode in TVD so you will know when it starts. You are still a long ways off. Matt Davis did get his own show but I think it only lasted about 8 episodes (maybe definitely wasn’t even a whole season).

I Am Not Chamari

I've watched this episode a couple of times and I still don't quite understand how Klaus... didn't die. How did Bonnie stop Klaus from dying by putting Klaus in Tyler's body? Is it because his consciousness was now inside Tyler, so his soul couldn't die? Or... something like that? I kind of wish that we stayed a little longer with Damon after Ric was dying. I think it switched scenes much too quickly and even staying there for five more seconds would have been super impactful. Regarding why Damon was in the road during the flashback, it was his thing to find prey, as we saw in Season 1 and Season 2. Maybe if Elena hadn't come along, he would have killed her parents lol Also, this show is super horrible with age stuff, so it didn't even cross my mind with how weird/creepy this scene could be taken because of Elena and Damon's respective ages. Yikes. But that sort of stuff is constantly normalized in other teen media. At least with this show, you have the excuse of vampires being natural predators.

Oh, I never knew the main creator of S1-3 left, maybe that explains why I couldn't sit the show out anymore at some point, but I still rewatch S1-4 (Even though I find 4 rough at times, a certain ship makes it doable).
