The Troubletones being created is one of my favorite things that happened in Glee. The creation of The Troubletones leads to them performing my favorite cover performed on Glee (which is performed at the end of episode 6) they also perform another cover that is in my top 20 favorite covers from Glee (which is performed in episode 8).

Seriously with Glee one of the biggest issues is that whenever we get a group that isn't New Directions, you get a group that is primarily filled with professional dancers. So not even talking vocally yet, you get better physical performers than what the New Directions as a group can manage. Then add a solid vocal performers (Troubletones feature my favorite and another that is extremely good), and you get a kickass group.

YAY THE TROUBLETONES ARE HERE

Mr. Shue is just a weird man. And is probably the only character I dislike all the time. He enables everything. I disliked Mercedes, Santana, and Brittany leaving at first (well the way they did it) until I saw their Candy Man performance. It made me realize how New Directions isn’t that versatile with talent. Continuously showcasing one voice over and over again kinda makes it repetitive and lacking in flavor. Sometimes we need pop, sometimes we need rap, sometimes we need show tones, sometimes we need dancing and not just standing around. Talent shouldn’t just be one look/sound/genre/voice.

Hold up hold up....Mercedes was “lazy” and couldn't dance before but now magically knows how to dance? These writers man, I can’t sometimes. That storyline wasn't needed. 😂😂😂

Morgan

Exactly 😂 Dancing isn't something you just learn overnight. Mercedes ends up dancing multiple times this season but the writers forgot they said Mercedes was "lazy" and "couldn't dance".

This episode is honestly meh. I feel bad for the actor coming in to play Rory to have to portray all these stereotypes. His voice is good but the songs they gave him to introduce him were soooo boring, and they introduced him as a creep trying to get with Brit by pretending to be a leprechaun. I hate what they are doing with Quinn. I know why she’s acting the way she is and I wish they would’ve taken it more seriously instead of all the crazy stuff with Shelby. Bringing Shelby back into Quinn and pucks lives really had a lot of potential for something great and the messed it up big time. I also didn’t really love this plot line of the new competing group. I love the trouble tones and Mercedes and Santana and I 100% agree they needed to be featured more. I wish they had found a way to create the trouble tones without separating everyone during their senior year.

Rachel is so cute 💕

The way they wrote Brittany in this episode is so frustrating. Her humor and character worked well for me in I Am Unicorn, but she was so inconsistent in this episode. It wasn’t even funny, it was just offensive and hypocritical. The Irish stereotypes, Rory being creepy and just the overall character of Brittany in this episode didn’t work for me. The saving grace was Brittana. Their date was super cute.

Finn is such a hater lmao I noticed that immediately this episode. I liked that Santana called him out on his jealousy because he really just attacks the man for saying a single word. And although I think Santana was valid in her worries for sectionals, Rachel just suggested that they should do Blaine's "Last Friday Night" for sectionals as one of their songs - there was no confirmation that that would be happening and they typically have at least one other selection. Also, the whole "we won the last time I sang a solo for sectionals" doesn't really apply here, since you TIED and the group you tied with was led by Blaine anyways lol

I actually like the character of Finn but this first half of the season he is annoying for multiple reasons. Even though Finn is considered a "leader" of Glee Club he seems jealous of Blaine even though all Blaine is trying to do is fit in with the New Directions (Blaine wasn't ever trying to overtake Glee Club but just merely giving suggestions), Finn called Brittany an idiot, and then Finn does something else (won't spoil that storyline) that is wrong towards a character/then kind of acts like what he has done isn't a big deal for that character (even though he tries to explain why he does what he does he went about addressing the issue the wrong way).

Morgan

I think The Troubletones needed to be created if for no other reason for Mr. Schue to realize he was taking other members of the Glee Club for granted. Mr. Schue clearly had favorites in Glee Club (which were Finn and Rachel) and the entire Glee Club knew it but that didn't mean other voices couldn't have been better showcased. When it comes to competitions we have often got a Finn and Rachel duet/Finn and Rachel led group performance plus a Rachel solo performance yet there are other voices in Glee Club that could've been utilized more/had other voices been used more there wouldn't have been the division of Glee Club during many of the Glee Club members' Senior year. Mercedes and Santana have great voices yet their voices haven't really been utilized outside of the choir room and auditorium performances. When Mercedes and Santana were in the New Directions, Mercedes was always used to belt notes within songs performed in competitions (so she hasn't had a major singing part in a competition performances yet) meanwhile Santana has only had one solo within a competition which was "Valerie" (the solo was featured in the very same episode Emma tells Mr. Schue he should utilize other members of his Glee club)/all her other singing parts in competitions were her essentially singing short verses within songs. With Mercedes, Santana, and Brittany leaving it will force Mr. Schue to utilize others in Glee Club for performances. Glee Club has been around for 3 years now and Mr. Schue should've already made changes by now but it took 3 members leaving to another Glee Club for him to have to make changes. Going forward him utilizing other members does add a difference to the performances rather than having predictable groups numbers (which to me ends up being a good thing that comes out of this storyline and in my opinion leads to some of the better group performances of the first 3 seasons).

Really sad about Rory in this episode. The actor that portrayed him is one of 2 winners from a contest show called the Glee Project. The other one will appear in the show later. They gave him such a bad character to go with, when he has such strong voice I think he could have become a strong lower registered foil to a lot of the female singers in this show.
