Quantoto

FYI the title and screen capture above are for episode 6. The posted episode is titled Shindig.

Thanks for another great reaction. I think there is an important distinction in what Atherton was asking when he wanted Inara to stay. He is not looking for a type of marriage (or a partnership) between him and inara. Rather he was looking at her as an object or trophy that he could buy and bring out to show his status. One would think that once she lost her luster and appeal, he would "trade her in for a newer model" Favorite little moments of this episode that help build the world/characters/relationships: 11:40 - Mal instantly regrets insulting Kaylee 19:04 - Kaylee wanting to question the buffet table 28:43 - Mal and Inara laughing during their dance 32:33 - Unlocking doors by replacing a removed handle 42:47 - Inara shows her power by "blacklisting" Atherton 46:46 - Mal's cargo is essentially a cattle drive, making him a true space cowboy.

I think it's safe to say that Mal absolutely likes Inara, but HATES her profession, and that whole rich, fancy, hypocritical world she comes from. But you'll notice all the digs he makes toward her are all geared toward that, and not her character. He respects HER, but not what she does for a living.

I love how the older gentlman steps in to protect Kaylee and later she shows herself to be the belle of the balll
