With Jonathan's side of things. I completely understand why he doesn't want to deal with Martha's dad anymore. I mean, imagine you go to the man's office out of respect to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage... only for his response to literally say "my daughter is throwing her life away if she marries you". Like Goddamn I understand not liking someone, but to say someone is throwing their life away for marrying you. Basically he's saying Jonathan is nothing, has nothing and will never have anything to offer Martha. Talk about a punch to the gut man, dude was lucky all he got was one hit from Jonathan. And what makes it worse is that he thinks and feels the way he does about Jonathan; when from our eyes, is there a better husband or father than Jonathan MF'ing Kent? There's literally nothing he wouldn't do for those he loves but that matters not one bit to Grandpa, because as he said, he sees nothing more than a hick farmer. Jonathan knows nothing has changed so he doesn't feel the need to waste his or Clark's time with false hopes. He'll always be a hick farmer in those eyes and unless that changes, there's nothing to fix. I know ppl like this.

I always thought this one might be a little inspired by the inca mummy girl ep of Buffy.

I've seen a few different TV interpretations of Martha Kent and this was this first time I've really seen her get a backstory. I like that they established that Martha's very smart and capable, which makes her working for Lionel much more plausible and understandable since she came from a kinda similar world. Also loved your reaction of trying to tell Lex "Shhhh!" when he awkwardly mentioned Lana's mystery man and her mom make an attractive couple.

Sometimes Smallville feels like it's not even interested in the stories it's telling
