The meteor shower in itself is a great mystery because no one knows where it came from. Then it came Clark saving him and Nixon insisting that the car must have hit Clark. Then there is this story about a ship. Plus he has been in Smallville long enough to know that the meteors have an never-before seen effect on people and that is why he contacted Hamilton in the first place. Put all those reasons together and that is what Lex is looking for. An answer about why is all these things happening or happened.

Plus what happened to him as well. Love this episode as well. The next is the finale, can't wait.

That was indeed Galen Tyrol. This episode has a lot of good call backs to past storylines Rewatching this I am surprised how much this season made me care about the characters.

I just love how casually the show portrays Clark's powers sometimes. Like when Clark and his dad were loading the feed and he just grabs three of the bags that he dad has to shoulder-carry.

Jonathan gave back the money because Lex looking into that field makes him believe that Lex is still looking into Clark and his family after he told them he'd stopped. Lex seemed disinterested in front of the reporter because he doesn't want to cut the reporter in on what he finds. One of the best things in this whole show is the relationship between Clark and Jonathan. Can honestly tell you as someone who watched this when it was airing, this show was huge and all of us wanted to be Clark Kent. Jonathan Kent raised us all in a way as corny as it sounds.

You ask what Lex is looking for. One of Lex' major character traits across media is that he gets obsessed with things. It showed here on the show with the car accident. But since the day of the meteor shower is the day that profoundly changed Lex' life, it's also a day he can't let go off. For Lex this isn't just a random day with a random astrological event. Even if it were one, he'd have to find a reason why it wasn't random.

You're right Lex does have an obsessive personality. I think Lex is obsessed with the meteor shower because it's a formative experience in his life. Lex likes to have control. He feels that if he can understand why things happened in the past (meteor shower, car crash etc) he can have a measure of understanding of his present and future, aka his destiny. This due in part to his upbringing, his father has primed him with the idea that he has a great destiny and Lex wants/needs to fufill that. It's also rooted in the idea of knowledge is power. And Lex is never going to say no to more power. His father makes him feel powerless, so if he gets the chance to have any power he's going to take it.

You ask what Lex is looking for, besides losing his hair Lex confirmed that it was after the meteor shower where he realized he doesn't get sick anymore. He mentioned this in an earlier episode--that would be enough to try and figure out why that happened or if it's just coincidence but coupled with all the other convenient plots of the meteor shower and the car that "hit Clark", how can you not understand where Lex is coming from?
