I agree, I don't like the way the she gets all the plot lines too. We didn't comment on the bissexual thing I think to avoid spoilers. The thing is that the show was kinda audacious to make a character bissexual for the time it was airing, it wasn't really a thing back then. If you don't really love this arc, it still has some good scenes here and there, it is not gonna be a torture to watch or anything. Episode 14 is amazing though, you're gonna love it!

Yes, Marissa is sooo damn annoying, but she was always my least favorite. You are very right when you said they gave all the drama storylines to her, but she is just such a dramatic and problematic chatacter. Summer is way too grounded and grown up to get sucked into shit like that. And I dont think Marissa is really bisexual, this thing with Alex is just something somebody like Marissa needs to experience because it pisses off the mother and gets her attention from other people. But the season gets pretty good later on and season 3 is soooo good!

Primus

Agree with what people said before. The bisexual thing was not commented as to not give anything away. But yeah, the thing between Marissa and Alex is so cringy. There are so many other better fleshed out same sex relationships out there. And since I don't like Alex and don't really care too much about Marissa it was really torture to watch. Don't worry though, everyone knew this storyline would not lead to anything good. Loved Summer Seth interactions this episode and the storyline about Sandy and Rebecca. Ryan and Lindsey is pretty meh as always. And well, that's it.

emmainkeri

I'm not sure but I feel like Sandy was still with Rebecca when she fled? Then some time later he met Kirsten.

emmainkeri

I don't like Marissa either, but I do think Alex has more chemistry with her than with Seth.

Mariella Nilsson

I don’t have a problem with Alex and marissa storyline, think it is quite realistic.

I certainly don’t have an issue with characters being bisexual (I’m bi myself), but I got tired a long time ago of shows throwing a “bisexual” SL in just for a titillating ratings boost. I think Olivia Wilde is great though, and I first became a fan of hers way back when this show was first airing on TV. I was never a fan of Marissa’s character, but this SL doesn’t bother me as much as some others do.

Sandy and Kirsten met in college 😊

it's episode 2x10 btw

I’m reeeeally glad that they don’t give Summer any of those dramatic things like alcoholism, drug problems, family drama, stealing, being a brat etc. I want her to be better than that - more grounded, happy, confident and enjoyable. To me it sort of makes sense that Marissa gets all that drama, she’s a careless and angry teenager who’s like «screw everyone NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME», and does anything she can to oppose her mother. Really though, she has no good rolemodels. Her mother is Julie Cooper - enough said, her father bailed on her and sucked, Caleb Nichol is her stepfather - again, enough said. So yeah, to me it makes sense that she gets all the drama and I’m happy they leave Summer out of it. She’s the best!

Whoa, there are tons of spoilers in the comments, ...wtf. Like we haven’t even seen them get together and people are already spewing their opinions about it to you.

Lexi

Honestly they wrote Marissa as the broken teenager from Newport because Ryan was the broken teenager from Chino and they fall in love they had to have someone in there that made Ryan’s life not as easy there very much is similar people so they both have that they save everyone complex so it makes sense that Marissa‘s like that she’s not just being a brat

Lexi

They write Marissa like that to play off of Ryan’s character they needed someone to bring the drama and Marissa was the person that lived that broken outsider character from Newport that kind of paralleled with Ryan something somewhere obviously a very different couple so I don’t think she’s annoying in anyway she’s just written like that that’s her character

Lexi

I think a lot of people misunderstand Marissa‘s character. She’s not just a unruly destructive brat. She has parents who are not there for her her on and off relationship with Ryan is obviously always affecting her and they come from similar backgrounds but just from different places him from Chino her from Newport they both got outside or broken person Ryan’s just able to kind of change it because his perspective is different because he came from the wrong side of the tracks Marissa always tries to get out of it but she’s never able to she always you knows falls back down into drinking or now she’s falling for Alex but I don’t think that makes her a bad character just because she gets all the drama storylines I’ll admit they give her a lot but she’s written like that on purpose she supposed to be that character that has the savior complex just like Ryan and they’re supposed to have a lot of drama south and summer are very different couple so while Marisa an Ryan Yesss have the most drama and Marissa does bring a lot of drama I think that there’s a reason for it and I don’t think she’s just being a brat I think she’s just trying to handle her life and she’s a teenager she’s going through it

emmainkeri

I agree, I don't think people should be talking about ongoing or future arcs, but Steven did kind of ask for comments on the Marissa/Alex thing. It is obvious that the show is doing something with them romantically, but it's not cool to confirm it in the comments or say whether it's gonna last or not or which direction they're going with it.

emmainkeri

This is all true but a lot of people still dislike her as a character. I understand her and see everything from her point of view, but still find her frustrating.
