Nervous, nerdy Ben gives me life! It’s cool that you are appreciating the world building that the show is doing. Pawnee is like a character itself, that’s one of the most things that makes this show so endearing. You’ll find lots of recurring characters and running jokes as things go along.

It depends on the city's laws how old one must be to be mayor. It actually happened in real life a few years before the show. Michael Sessions became mayor of Hillsdale Michigan in 2005. Ben Wyatt is partly based on this story, considering they both were mayors of small Midwest towns. Sessions didn't resign in disgrace though, he simply didn't seek reelection and never moved on in politics.

By the way, if you want to see Adam Scott in another role where he isn't playing a douche you should watch Party Down. It's only 2 seasons but it's great. It has Lizzy Caplan and Megan Mullaly who plays Tammy 2 in P&R.

I actually ran for mayor of my small town when I was 19. I didn’t win (3rd place lol), so it actually is possible to be mayor that young.
