This intro song version is objectively awful. Not like "not my taste," just plan terrible. I don't understand how room full of creators and executives listened to it and said hell yeah.

There are a lot of VM fans that didn’t like this 4th season. I personally had no problems with it myself and though it was pretty good. Kristen Bell has said that you would love to play Veronica Mars as an old lady as long as Rob Thomas wanted to make it. So while there are no current plans for another season I do think that there is always a chance it could return in some for. But it was a bummer to me that Hulu didn’t pick up another season. I guess the numbers for this season 4 weren’t as good as they hoped. I’m personally always happy to be back in Neptune spending some time with the gang.

In the movie we see neptune getting worse, in this episode we see how neptune has effected Veronica, cliff, and Keith!

I also like the old Intros better!

I agree that this felt like a totally different show (which makes sense, it's a different time, they're older, different production). I didn't mind S4--it was nice to to see VM again--I just don't think it has the smart, campy cult magic that made the original show (esp. S1-2) basically flawless in my eyes.

I do hope you react to Play It Again Dick. It’s a lot of fun

The show definitely feels different. No more case of the weeks. It’s an 8 episode case made for a steaming service that feels like it should be binged (and was made to feel that way). The movie was pure fan service because the fans finances it. And the old show was, “teen detective”. This season Rob Thomas was hoping to jump into a new era, adult, noir version of Veronica Mars that could be sustained going forward. He didn’t want this revival to be based in nostalgia but it’s own thing taking place in Neptune with some familiar faces involved as well.

"What are your thoughts on this new season?" Without spoilers: For me the joy of seeing Veronica again ebbed away pretty quickly. Back in the day the fans of the show were called "marshmallows" for a reference that Veronica made in one of the early episodes in season 1. While not directly so said in that episode you could read it as "burned on the outside, fluffy on the inside". But here in season 4, Veronica is cynical without her fluffy side, she is harsh to her friends and unforgiving for things she herself has done previously. No marshmellowing anymore. Further details when you actually watched the episode(s).

I personally loved this season. More than the movie and certainly far more than S3. Yeah, it feels different, but I think it kinda needed to. But it was definitely polarizing among the fandom so I look forward to seeing your thoughts. But yeah the new intro sucked, lol.

Chrissy Hynde from the Pretenders sang the intro. I like how the intro tells you immediately that this is a darker show. Do I miss California poppy fun? Sure. But I really admire that Rob wanted to go more Noir here.

I loved the new season. It’s a whole lot darker, for sure, and differently paced, but I think they really excelled at that. It absolutely does feel different, but I thought it was excellent story telling.

It definitely feels like a different show, but i believe in a good way. It is more mature and dark. I like the vibe of the show, it keeps some of the wit and quirk but also adds more layers to the whole thing. It may not reach the heights of 1, but i believe it is close to season 2 and definitely way better than season 3. You shouldn't judge this based on the movie, as the movie was a straight out fan service.

I don't mind the darker vibe, or her vocals - it's the melodic arrangement that's bad.

It really does feel like a different show… and that’s the problem here for me. I feel like so much time was wasted in this episode with random characters we don’t know or care about, and as you said, that’s not what the show was ever really about. The first 3 seasons and the movie were all about the personal - we saw everything from Veronica’s POV, the cases were personal to her, and we rarely, if ever, saw the viewpoints of the non-regular characters or potential bad guys. Basically, if Veronica (or any of the other regular supporting characters like Logan, Wallace, Keith etc.) wasn’t present in the scene or involved in it in some way, we didn’t see or know what was happening until she/they found out. I would recommend reading the official Veronica Mars novels published in 2014 and 2015, ideally before watching S4 (though as you have already started the season, it may be too late) because the novels are considered ’98% canon’ (according to Rob Thomas) and they fill in gaps and give backstory on several of the characters and plots featured in Season 4. The books are called The Thousand Dollar Tan Line (audiobook narrated by Kristen Bell) and Mr. Kiss and Tell, and they are set in the first year after the movie, and address the following: - how Veronica and Logan got Pony - how and why Logan joined the Navy - who the new Police Chief Marcia Langdon is, and her history with Keith - what happened to Weevil after the movie - what happened with the police corruption in Neptune introduced in the movie Also, one other thing to be aware of, as it is not actually clarified in Season 4 (we only know because Rob Thomas tweeted it several months before Season 4 was released), but Neptune finally incorporated sometime between the movie and Season 4, and that is why Marcia Langdon is now the Police Chief and not the Sheriff.

After Veronica Mars would you react to Party Down? It's a comedy that was on Starz and was also created by Rob Thomas. It has a lot of the same cast and so many guest stars from Veronica Mars. Dick and Vinny Vanlow are main characters along with Adam Scott, Martin Starr, Lizzy Caplan, and Jane Lynch. Veronica, Keith, Logan, Meg, and so many others guest star. Episodes are like 30min and there's only 20 episodes. I haven't seen anyone else react to it. I think it would be a good replacement for Veronica Mars when it's over. Or at least check out the Pilot. Love your reactions!
