I think much of what makes these recent episodes so satisfying is they’re paying off set-ups and tying up loose threads from the early episodic stories. From the very first episode we’ve been clued that some things aren’t always as they seem. Ward’s betrayal makes that abundantly clear. I don’t think the writers of this show suddenly got better at their craft. I think they knew what they were doing by laying down the groundwork for this climax.

Next episode is greaaat. The rest of this season actually, made me love this series and stick with it for the long haul.

Glad you enjoying the show. The ward twist I didn't see at all. But I really didn't like him so I didn't think about him much. I like his bad guy persona though he does a good job as an actor.
