About your question as to why they didn't do the culmination of the Shaw storyline in the season finale is because episode 13 WAS the season finale as someone mentioned in the comments of the previous video. The network then backordered some more episodes and the writers had to come up with something more quickly. So, no, they didn't actually know how many episodes the season would end up having. :)

This episode really wasn't about the case so much as it was about Chuck and Sarah finally being together. This is actually the favourite episode of the creators themselves and is one of the most popular episodes of the entire show. For me this is a 9.5/10.
