Rob Thomas is the creator/writer of Veronica Mars, NOT the musician. They just reference the musician as an inside joke/shout out to their Rob. As for Dick, his storyline this season HAS been all about his dealing ( or rather, actively not dealing) with what happened with his brother. His drinking and partying has been him wallowing in avoidance. We've seen glimpses of his breakdown all season. Remember him showing up to Logan's door the night Parker was raped saying "I messed up bad"? We were meant to assume he meant about Parker, but it's more likely he was talking about his treatment of Cassidy. It's just when his dad resurfaces that Dick is forced to confront how his and his father's treatment of Cassidy may have led to what happened. Thus, the serious breakdown. But, Dick has been spiraling all season. We just expect so little from him that we don't really notice until he cracks at the end of the season. Dick has more depth than we ever gave him credit for. He hides behind a facade of shallow surfer boy but can you blame him? Look at his parents. Dick isn't quite as complex or tortured as Logan, but when you really look closely, he's awfully close.

Agreed, and the "I messed up bad" breakdown was 100% about Cassidy. I've commented this before, but S3 seriously underutilized Dick (as a character and an actor) with respect to his struggles over Cassidy's death and his relationship with this dad.

I also used onehub... it was ok. A little bit slower than the others, but ok. The episode for me was good. Not anything special but good. THe most interesting part of course happened at the end.
