Early Glee is all over the place. Most characters aren’t very likable. But this does improve as the show progresses and while each character will have times where their worst character traits are on the forefront you will get to see their better halves, but it does take time. It also takes a bit of time for the writers to figure out what worked and what doesn’t for the audience.

I honestly love season 1. I know there are tons of fans who don’t, but there is a distinct charm to the first season. I enjoyed this episode, and Push It is hilarious xD

The songs and performances get better (for the most part) after S1, and more characters get a chance to showcase their talents. I love Rachel and her voice, but I don’t love everything she sings and I think other characters (some that you haven’t heard sing yet) also bring a lot to the table with their different kinds of voices. Also “Say A Little Prayer” was a mess, vocal-wise, IMO. I don’t like Quinn’s voice much (she has few songs where she sounds good, but she’s my least fave) and I wish they hadn’t used random backgrounds vocals for the other two cheerleaders (Santana and Brittany), because knowing what they actually sound like (nothing like that) makes that performance seem ridiculous to me now. But I don’t want to say too much, so as not to spoil anything for you.

For me, it’s the fact that a few of my favorite characters/singers (other than Rachel) have no focus in S1 or they aren’t even in S1, and that makes it hard to not to rush through S1 on rewatches so that I can get to the seasons/eps and performances that I love more. There are still plenty of great things about S1 though.

Yeah and the character development fluctuated so much on Glee. Sometimes character development was thrown right out the window from one ep to the next and it frustrated me so much. But I just came to accept that Glee was the kind of show that put satirical humor and ridiculous plot lines over consistency and character development a lot of the time.

I totally get that, but I honestly LOVE season 1. It was back when glee didn’t take itself too seriously, and was still a dark comedy. The writing was a bit tighter and the showrunners had a clear vision of the end. It’s when they started getting attention and listening to the fans is when the show started going downhill. I do like that they focused on other characters in the later seasons and expanded on their arcs. The music got better because it got more mainstream. I love the season 1 music because it’s rough and reflects how small and tight the club was. I totally do get what you are saying, if they focused on other characters from the beginning I think season 1 would be even better than it was.

“That was the most offensive thing I've ever seen in 20 years of teaching – and that includes an elementary school production of Hair.” Sometimes I feel like I watch this show just for Sue's passive aggressive snark.

During the run of glee my least favorite thing about it was Rachel's singing... sure she has her moments and all, but for the most part she's just too over the top for my taste... sounds like shes screaming. My favorite vocals are between Santana and Tina for the girls and Puckerman for THIS season of the boys.
