The idea that "Dubs usually aren't good" is a common myth in the anime community. All voice actors, both the English and Japanese, are professionally trained as actors and are only accepted if they are good. The difference is the style of acting. American voice acting uses a lot of subtlety and tries to be as close to realistic as possible, they are only as dramatic as they need to be. Japanese acting is all about being dramatic, they scream loud, and they exaggerate the tone of the voice. If you are used to the sound of Japanese voice acting then English voice acting is dull in comparison, if you don't pay attention to the subtlety.
