Where to begin? There's a lot about Daria to love. Is it well showcased in this first episode, no. But, it gives us a place to start. Daria is intelligent, insightful and possesses a keen BS detector. Does she fit in with her peers? No. But, she doesn't really want to either. She just wants to survive high school. At home she's got a sister who really only cares about boys, clothes, popularity and being pretty. Daria doesn't relate. She's got a workaholic mom and a dad who cares, but is still out of touch. We do see a lot of stereotypical characters here: the football player always in his uniform, the cheerleader always in hers. The characters rarely change clothes, but that's probably just to make the animation easier. I love so much here starting with the theme song. Who hasn't related to "you're standing on my neck" at some point? Thankfully the characters develop even if the animation does not. My only complaint with Hulu having Daria is that they don't have the 2 movies: Is It Summer Yet? and Is It College Yet?.

I love Daria. I even have the whole series on DVD. The music used to be the current music and if you watched it when it originally aired you remember. It’s funny because when they decided to come out with the DVD set the first thing you see is how they had to change a lot of the music or it would have been hella expensive and we probably wouldn’t have gotten the DVD set at all. But I agree with Nica. Show is pretty great and the characters develop nicely. Some characters haven’t even shown up yet. If you give some more Elia chance that’d be great. I never even expected it to pop up here so that was a wonderful surprise.

I didn’t know you had watched this!! Growing up in the 90s, Daria was my hero. I really related to her view of her teachers, peers, and family. She’s good, but too smart for her own good and certainly for those around her which makes her an outcast. I would love to see you watch more of these to watch the characters to develop and to see the other characters who haven’t been introduced yet. On the other hand, if the animation itself bothers you that much, it might not be the best idea. Loved your reaction anyway though! đŸ‘đŸŸ
