I think you're kinda missing the point of Smallville. When Clark crash landed on Earth he was the cause of death of Lana's parents. He also brought Kryptonite to Earth something that gets expanded on over the series but essentially its radioactive material that changes people, the environment, insects, etc. Clark indirectly brought monsters and mayhem into this world which is why he fights as he feels this is his responsibility to fix the mess he made.

That makes sense. I didnt think about it that way. When in the Reaction did I give the wrong impression of what I was missing about the show? I'm just curious if it was something I said or something that maybe I implied

Smallville is 100% cheese so I enjoy your more cynical reactions to my favorite shows as a younger viewer. I don't think it was anything you said it was more of a feeling I got about a third into the episode. Granted I didn't finish until now and you did explain your thought process so the comment may be a bit dated now. The thing about Smallville is its MOTW but the monsters are kind of a reflection about Clark's personal demons and dilemmas--like this episode was about change and you see it literally with bug boy and figuratively with the story unfolding by our main characters. Just expect LITERAL monsters and bug boy I think is one of the worst the series has. Better to get that over with lol

Oh, ok. I just wasnt sure what I said that may have lead to that. Sometimes during reactions I'm kinda just saying my thoughts as they pop up. And I gave it a low score becuase based on what everyone says about this show I assume episodes will be much much better than this.

Oh yeah definitely, the show is way different after a certain point. The last 3 seasons is what comic book junkies would want out of the show once you get past the high school phase and start bringing in more heroes and villains for the casual audiences. I know some fans like the more human element of the younger years but some fans also like the more action heavy story-driven plots. I wouldn't say start way later in the series like Season 8 (think soft-reboot) but if the high school drama isn't hooking you then Season 8's story might.

Re: Pa Kent dying. I never was much of a comic reader, but out of curiosity's sake I watched the 1948 serial (10 parts at about 15 minutes that were shown pre-movie in cinemas) and there both Kents died before Clark moved to Metropolis (I think back then Pa Kent's name wasn't even Jonathan yet). In the 1978 movie when Pa Kent died, Clark starts his journey towards the North Pole to create the Fortress of Solitude. In the 1993 Lois & Clark both parents were an integral part of the show. As for Smallville: You'll see.

Re: Age. The gang is all (supposed to be) 14 now. Lana will have her 15th birthday in a few episodes. They'll all have their 18th birthday in the 4th season with Clark towards the end of it, making him actually the youngest. Lex was 9 in 1989 when the meteor shower happened, he's born around 1980 and is now 21, making him 7 years older than his high school companions.

Thank you so much for another reaction for Smallville!! I really love this show. My favorite characters we've been introduced to so far are Clark, Lex Luthor, and Jonathan Kent. I especially love the dynamic between Clark and Lex. Tom Welling (Clark), Michael Rosenbaum (Lex), and John Schneider (Jonathan) are all really brilliant actors in this show. I don't care much for Lana at all, or Chloe and Pete so far. They get better over time, as does Whitney too. In regards to the villain of the week... I didn't like him at all. Like you... I too hate bug episode from any show. But the overall episode is pretty good. One of my favorite moments was when Greg (Bug Boy) attacked Clark and Jonathan in their barn. Oh... and I loved the song played int he end of the episode a lot too. Wherever You Will Go by The Calling. Excellent song!!! Thank you again! I hope to see more Smallville later on if you're ever in the mood to watch it again. I'd be all for it! :)

Yeah this is one of the weaker Smallville episodes, which is a shame as it's only episode 2 of the first season! There are some cliches, which didn't used to be cliches, but it is about 20 years later now! If you do this series it's a long commitment, but it may be something that can fill the Buffy and Angel gap once you finish those series. I also recommend the CW Arrowverse as well at some point but that's an even bigger commitment as there's like 5 shows now and you need to watch them in the right order for crossovers!
