I've said before that this show kind of flips the usual narrative of token gay bestie and straight main character. In HS, most of the main characters are queer, living their best lives, and the straights are in the background. I'm sure most of their classmates currently identify as straight - we just don't follow what they're doing. Of the main crew, we do have 3 characters who currently identify as straight - Tao, Elle and Imogen. We also already have another queer teacher - Ms. Singh, the rugby coach. Also, combining all the characters including minor ones, this show has more POC characters then white ones, which is a wonderful change. Mr Farouk and Mr Ajayi aren't like getting together as boyfriends. As far as I'm aware, the show and the comics made it seem like they literally just had a very adult hookup in Paris. Which is more realistic to me. What isn't is that they did it in the same room Darcy just got sick in. I know that room smells, even with the balcony window open. I think Ben being at the party was more so we could rub his face in that Charlie is thriving and he's stuck in the shadows. And to show that despite him saying that he was "a dick then" and that he wants Charlie back, the moment anyone insinuates anything queer about him, he's rushing straight back into denial. Nick and Charlie are so cute together. Nick's so strong though. Like, we all wanna pick Charlie up like the smol boi he is and put him in our pockets but I think Nick is the only one who can physically do it.
