i love that last scene with luke and lorelai. i always interpreted it as lorelai finally acknowledging the possibility that luke has feelings for her, and that she may have feelings for him back, but their friendship and what they have is most important to her. she doesn’t want to jeopardize her relationship with one of the few people she knows will always be there for her and the other way around. i think luke feels the same way. on some level, he knows what he feels for her is more than friendship, but she is the most important thing to him, not the status of their relationship. he would rather have her in his life as a friend than not have her in his life at all.
