This was my first time using a combination of draping and flat patterning to make something and I'm so proud!!!!

I started with an old pajama Pant patterning. I added extra volume to the bottoms and adjusted the waist to fit me, cut them off a little below the knee, and then sewed some elastic into the bottom so I could test out the poof shape. Using markers, I marked where I though the pleats, seems, and darts should go based in reference pictures. I actually managed to move a a dart into the front pleat so it would be hidden. I also planned where I wanted the hip openings to go, but those will be officially added in later.

Once I liked the overall shape, I cut the pattern apart and traced it into dollar store paper. To transfer the markings I made in the fabric pattern, I used a pounce wheel which is a tool with a round pokey thing to poke holes through the fabric into the paper below. I drew the lines of the pleats, then cut the pattern apart at the pleats and added in the space occupied by each pleat. These inverted pleats are 2 inches wide, so I needed to pattern in 2 inches for the fabric that folds in under the pleats and back then out two inches on both sides of the pleat. This added 8 inches to the pattern per pleat. I folded the paper pattern up to make sure it measured the same as the original pattern then moved onto fabric

I actually cut straight into the final fabric which I never do, but I was pretty confident in my pattern, the fabric is cheap stuff for joanns, and I really didn't want to waist extra days doing everything twice. Lucky for me, IT TURNED OUT GREAT! I need to take like an inch off the back, take in the waist a little, cut out all the excess inside, but mostly I need to take them back apart so I can add the swirly designs on the bottom.
