FINALLY finished these shorts that were probably the most difficult thing I have ever down (I feel like lately I'm saying that after each project… I guess that's what happens when you're learning how to sew things properly) Since this process was so complicated, I'm splitting the breakdown into two parts, the second of which will be a video.

Before assembling the shorts, I needed to make the golden accent pieces I would have to hand sew to the outline layer of the lined shorts. I used the mockup I made while making the pattern to sketch out the gold accents and determine the sizing and placement on the shorts. I traced the pattern for the gold accents onto paper, then transferred the patterns to the same scuba fabric I used on the sock. Using iron on fusible webbing, I wrapped the suba pieces in gold spandex. To make the perfect circle on the right leg, I covered half of a plastic shower curtain ring in the gold spandex, using dry adhered contact cement like I have used in the past for covering craft foam and shoes. I glued the blue flash fabric to the back of the ring and then glued it to the L shaped gold piece. To connect the side l shaped pieces to the diamond piece, I covered each individual piece in fabric then hand stitched them together side by side.

To correctly place the gold accents, I sewed together the outside layer of the shorts and put them on then carefully hand stitched the gold pieces into place in a few places. I carefully took the shorts off then hand stitched the gold accents on much more securely.

Sewing the shorts into the lining from there was extremely complicated, so i made a little video to help explain the process. Stay tuned for part 2 and the pdf pattern!
